your math is very suspect. so Alabama has a 4% income tax which is deductible on the federal return making it 2%net. he will make 7 mil at bama, 10 mil at tejas. that 3 mil difference is still subject to federal income taxes and his agents cut of 6-10 percent. so he keeps about a mil and a quarter more per year. not double. roughly a third more. I also suspect you are not a taxpayer are you would be more familiar with tax paying.
You're figuring the 7M that he will make NEXT season. My original statement said this season, which is a little over 5M.

That also of course would be dependent upon Texas offering 10 mil, and Bama not countering with 10.5 mil.
Which we all know would happen. If it got into a real war, I think Bama would probably drop out somewhere around 13 mil or so.

either way if you think NS is still in play shows you do not have reaching comprehension for what is being said in title town. Go play with Les

Saban will be named the HC at UT by Wednesday. There is no way around it, provided the 10M per season is still in play. He knows what the Tide is willing to pay him now. All Texas has to do is sweeten that deal and he's gone.
Operating under the assumption that what Alabama put on the table is their absolute final offer and they aren't even aware of the existence of the concept of a counteroffer, and assuming that he's the route Texas chooses to go, you may very well be right.

I think Updyke would be in Longhorn heaven, seeing as he's from Texas and all.

Well, it's not hard for a sidewalk fan to change his allegiance.

Sexton announcing the extension had been reached Friday evening started the domino effect here, IMO. Saban had the extension on his desk for a week. He knows what he's worth to Bama. I'm purely speculating, but no way he's turning down 10M if his beloved Tide only thinks he's worth 7 to 7.5. No one in their right mind would do that.
This is all under the assumption that 10M per year that was widely reported last week is the play. Texas has shite the bed too many times this past week to believe anything at this point. I'm also convinced they wouldn't force out Mack if they didn't have their guy.

And I'm purely speculating, but there's no way Alabama would go through a lot of trouble to draw up a heavy extension with no buyout if they would just fold at the first sign of a potential suitor.

And these two sentences are in indirect contradiction with one another. Just sayin'.

I don't think they forced Mack out to begin with. I think the boosters and ex-regents basically pulling a Bobby Lowder are what served as the catalyst for this shite show.
I think a combination of factors played into the current outcome. Miscommunication, extraordinary ("All the money that is not up at the Vatican is at UT") hubris, pride and obstinance.
They just plain shite the bed and embarrassed themselves, IMO.

Well, if they want to dig up a fossil and also want a 'Bama man, they should just back a dump truck - like one of those Caterpillar 797s -- full of oil money up to Howard Schnellenberger's front door. He might have trouble staying awake on the sideline, however...
ETA: Someone shop some Texas colors onto this, why don'tcha?
