If you took out the Alma mater angle the only school I could ever see an LSU coach leaving for is Texas.
Personally I could see any school losing their coach to Texas though.

I think the OP is referring to the state of the programs right now. If you go back 20 years or more, this list could be very different.

Could you imagine the head coach at Notre Dame leaving for those schools though?
Yes, as soon as he realizes the program will NEVER be what it was and his alma mater calls.

There are times that the U would have been considered here, that Oklahoma would have been a more realistic discussion. Again, if we're talking historically, I don't argue with the status of the programs on the list, but that status no longer translates the way that you claim with regard to coaching prospects, IMO

I think it is very hard to have a list of 7 programs. Here are the top tier programs that are out there, in no particular order:
1.Notre Dame
2.Ohio State
3.Michigan
4.Penn State
5.Nebraska
6.Miami
7.Florida State
8.Oklahoma
9.Texas
10.USC
11.Washington
12.Alabama
13.LSU
14.Florida
15.Georgia
16.Tennessee
Close second tier schools
1.Auburn
2.Clemson
3.Virginia Tech
4.Texas A&M
5.West Virginia
6.Oregon
7.UCLA
1.Notre Dame
2.Ohio State
3.Michigan
4.Penn State
5.Nebraska
6.Miami
7.Florida State
8.Oklahoma
9.Texas
10.USC
11.Washington
12.Alabama
13.LSU
14.Florida
15.Georgia
16.Tennessee
Close second tier schools
1.Auburn
2.Clemson
3.Virginia Tech
4.Texas A&M
5.West Virginia
6.Oregon
7.UCLA

id have to agree on that list, and i also agree that OK and LSU are on the cusp...if we win another title within the next 3 years, were there...

Oklahoma is on the cusp of that tier. Oklahoma has won more NC' and has more tradition than almost all the schools on that list save Notre Dame and they might as well be ancient Rome. That is one of dumbest statements I've seen on any message board.

Ray Perkins, who played on their '65 title team bolted after the '86 season for Tampa Bay. Bill Curry and Dennis Franchione also left for other college coaching jobs after 10 win seasons.

So your list would be Florida and Texas. I like it. Could you imagine the head coach at Notre Dame leaving for those schools though?
Sure
Or the head coach of Florida might leave for Notre Dame - if he grew up dreaming of coaching there
There was idle speculation the Meyer might do something like that after proving himself at Florida... he supposedly had a special affection for Notre Dame
It's about what the schools in question mean to the coach in question

Nebraska? Pelini is considered an LSU lock if we call on him.
Oklahoma is in the Top 3 programs of all time IMO, but I do not think it is he top tier of coaching jobs.

We have already discussed and debunked Fran and Bill Curry.
Look, obviously there are some coaches who would leave for a variety of reasons, so I pose a new question:
What programs would 98% of coaches never leave?
Notre Dame
Oklahoma
Texas
Alabama
Florida
Ohio State
Southern Cal
Michigan
Louisiana State
Florida State
Miami (despite the facilities, the national appeal is still ridiculous)
Georgia
Tennessee
The only school I would even debate on that list is Miami. I think it is comprehensive and cannot think of any arguements for teams left off the list. Even Auburn and Oregon, which are on the way up, albeit temporarily, are not yet coaching destinations for most coaches. Phil Knight probably disagrees however.
