He’s said he ran a 3-3-5 at Cinci because his personnel dictated it. I believe he will look at our players and put 4 hands in the dirt. Just my opinion.

The 3 rushing linemen can’t be double teamed because they still have to account for the linebacker.

The true beauty of it is that it allows dlineman to be pass rushers. Merging the “get the QB” mentality of a 4-3 with the gap control of a 3-4. It’s what Aranda did, but he always had the “4th” rusher coming off the edge so it was more predictable from a blocking scheme perspective.

I hope he can find a way to get Webb involved. Run a lot of 4-2-5 as well like the saints

Watching Cincy play UGA, I can absolutely see some of our smaller freshman LBs like White, Webb and Sampah working better in his scheme than they did without a lot of bulking up, which seemed necessary for them to work in Pelini’s defense. Freeman runs multiple fronts, moves guys around, and blitzes from different places on the field. These guys are going to be a lot better suited to potentially switching locations and roles.

I haven't watched Cincy, but it sounds alot like Aranda's defense just with more pressure. I remember WV ran a 3-3-5 I think when we played them in Morgantown.

Aranda got a lot more conservative and vanilla in 2019, but he had more motion and disguising going on in previous seasons here. Fickell was doing a lot of that vs UGA and it was working well for them.

Especially when youre short on DL talent and play in a conference that likes to sling the ball...

Where to the DL line up? Where do you see Smith, Roy and Ojulari playing in a 3-3-5

I am Slightly concerned that I’m seeing the DL is there to sorta eat blocks.

Line them up all over. Versatility is the name of the game.
