2016/17 coaching search compared to 05

I'm trying to remember, was there an obvious "go to" candidate like Tom Herman for the job when LSU was looking for a coach in 2005?

I remember Petrino wanting the position, but his interview didn't go well. I vaguely remember Del Rio being in the discussion, but was there anyone else of note? Was there a unanimous coach everyone wanted?

I'm hoping we get a home run hire this time around, but Les Miles wasn't considered home run then, was he?

Didn't Saban leave LSU on Christmas Day? Here's a copy of the Christmas card he sent out to LSU fans when he left.

In 05 we were behind the 8 ball because Saban waited until Xmas day to make his decision. We had a short window to get a coach and get recruiting on track. I think they really wanted Del Rio but when he failed to show for the meeting Skip came home and hired Miles. This program is a different program today than what it was in 05 as well. When they decide who the candidate is they should go and get him.
