frick Gus...

But seriously I tried that about 10 years ago straight out of college. Did like 3-4 books and stopped it was too much I think. Now that I’ve gotten more into the genre might appreciate/get it more. Was going to try that or maybe the expanse, heard it’s good.

Have you read any of Sanderson's own books? Highly recommend Sormlight Archive, Warbreaker and Mistborn.

Be prepared to be sucked into the Cosmere.

I just startred re-reading it and there is a podcast "Ten Very Big Books" with 3 people reading through malazan an discussing what was going on at the end of each section of the book. Gardens of the Moon is broken down into like six "books". Its very helpful even for someone who has read them before.

its on spotify, so if you enjoyed the books you read, but it was just too much and too confusing this podcast may help.

Tons of other good stuff out there though - read through the fantasy / sci fi discussion and recommendation thread for a lot of good recomendations. I recently finished up The Greatcoats and it is a very good 4 book series.

Sanderson has some good stuff out there - I really enjoyed his Wax and Wayne stuff. His Stormlight archive is good but its still early and unfinished as of now.

New Major casting news finally. Looks like they are going back to Prague soon to finally finish episodes 7-8 for season 1.

Min: Kae Alexander, has had smaller parts on Fleabag, GOT etc.

Siuan Sanche, The Amyrlin Seat: Sophie Okonedo

She looks 30 but is 52 so she’s got the ageless thing down:

One other thing about the Min casting...the actress is 39 years old. I was shocked to see that. Yes she looks younger, and asian woman tend to look younger for awhile, but that is almost 15 years older than the actor playing Rand. Min is supposed to be a few years older but that is pretty extreme.

If this show runs for 7-8 years she will be almost 50 by the time its over. Seems way way too old.

EDIT: The website claiming she is 39 might be wrong. There is no other information out there on her age, and it looks like she graduated from a HS that is an acting school in 2011, making her much younger, late 20s.

I always imagined lan as a much bigger person - Jason Mamoa size really, but other than that this Min casting seems a bit off and not what I was expecting.

I'm not worried about it as long as she is a good actress, Min was just someone I had a clear picture of in my head.

This picture makes her look much more "Min-ish":

Just need to confirm she's not damn near 40

Yeah, she had some much better pictures out there that made a lot more sense than the horrible headshot WoT picked to announce her role.

But yeah, she may not look 39, but she certainly looks much older than the 22-23 that Min is to start the series.

To be fair, all of the actors are older than in the books. In the books they are teenagers.

In this TV Series I believe they are all going to be early 20s. The actor playing Rand is 25 IRL.

shite...

MASSIVE RUMOR SPOILER

There's a rumor going around that Perrin is married in the first episode. So yeah, aging up a bit.

That's actually one change I'd agree with if they do this and drop the Faile character completely. Or just keep the name and not make her anything like the Faile in the book.

RUMOR / THEORY SPOILER?

The rumor was that Perrin's wife dies in the first episode - i just don't see any way the showrunner gets rid of Faile. That said, I think the whole Faile storyline will end up being way better in the series once they reduce the faile / perrin storyline in books 8 through 10 to about 6 - 8 total scenes spread through a couple seasons.

Yeah that isn't what's happening here.

Since Sneaky Sally let the cat out of the bag...

SPOILER

They are killing her in the first episode, is the rumor. It ups the stakes from Winternight, takes away some innocence, and gives a better reason for the way Perrin is: serious, overprotective, etc.

End SPOILER

They are also going to be keeping Faile. The showrunner says that Faile is by far his least favorite character, but they want to keep her with some...adjustments.

Well, Egwene is his favorite character so that sort of makes him a psycho so

I came around to Egwene HARD on one of my rereads. I think i would skip her chapters at one point. I really like her arc after she gets to Salidar and with her getting captured and back in the white tower now.

Egwene's passive assault on the tower from within, winning everyone to her side with honor and endurance, is 1 of my top 3 story lines in the series. The culmination of her efforts, with her standing in the hole at the top of the white tower wreaking vengeance and justice on the invaders was just awesome

One of the hallmarks of the entire series is how well Jordan showed you the emotional growth of all the main characters, rather than merely telling you it had happened, as most authors would. It was painful at times (Perrin-Faile, Elaine's quest for the crown, the early Salidar politics), but in retrospect, especially on reread, there really was an end game by the author.

Keeping in mind that the overarching plot is that the universe itself is nudging and prodding to make certain that the right people are in the right place at the right time and in the right frame of mind, all of the trials that each of the characters are put through carry even more meaning

The more I read about the "changes", as well as further disappointment with many of the ongoing casting choices. . .

Luckily all of these things will be cut from the show drastically.

This is a TV show that will be lucky to go 8 seasons. Things are going to have to be changed, by a lot.

I am all for eliminating and condensing as needed to make this story fit into the new medium. It is the "improving" that I am afraid will offend the fan in me.

Of course, we have discussed all this before, and I really do not mean to beat a dead horse. I am truly hopeful that the televised creation pleases all fans. Especially me!
