55 pages in as of last night. Abercrombie writes some funny crap.

First few sentences you have a priest going to visit the Pope and the very first words the priest says is "God Damnit!!" He's probably not the best priest

Anyone finished this yet? Worth an audible credit?

I finished Part 1. I can’t decide which member of the involuntary Fellowship I love the most.

I'm not finished listening yet but Steven Pacey is top notch as always. It's very entertaining so far.

I neglected to preorder the book.

I went to get a copy the Wednesday after it released, and it was sold out at both Barnes and Noble stores in my area.

I have a birthday coming up, and my wife is always nagging me about what I want, so I told her to get me the book.

So, it'll be a few weeks before I can even start the book.

Finished part one as well. Think I'm a little over 100 pages in. The first fight scene with Vigga was pretty hilarious. Jumped right into the madness.

Not sure who my favorite is either. Kind of liking Sunny and the Baron maybe.

How'd the signing/tour go with Abercrombie? I'm sure that was cool. What all did they do? I've never been to one.

My book signing is this Saturday. I’ve only been to one before (Pierce Brown -Light Bringer). It’s probably going to be 30-45 mins of First Law questions followed by the book signing. Hopefully no spoilers for The Devils.

The order to get the book signed is set by purchase date of the event tickets. I was 200th in line for LB and that took almost 3 hours because he was doing personalized messages and multiple books per person. Luckily there was a bar close and they were taking groups of 50 at a time so I knew when to come back. I’m 71st this time so the wait will be much better.

ETA: My ranking so far
Jakob
Vigga
Baptiste
Sunny
Balthazar
Baron
Alex
Diaz

I really like the alternate fantasy history of Europe rather than having to pretend I remember the geography of a made up world.

Halfway through Part 2 and Frigo’s granddaughter has jumped up the favorite character power rankings.

When I bought the ticket it wasn’t only Joe speaking. At some point after they added Patrick Rothfuss. I haven’t read Kingkiller Chronicles because everybody here says he will never finish it.

Nice! Saw pictures online and read on twitter about it. Saw people complaining that Rothfuss talked too much, like he was making it equally about him. People were like "Umm you're not a writer anymore buddy"

You know, now that you mention it, Rothfuss did talk too much. Probably 50:50. It was really them just chatting. Not much about First Law. Joe said he was most proud of The Heroes (specifically the Casualties chapter) which may come as a surprise to some. It was my favorite standalone but others disagree. Only a few things about The Devils. No spoilers luckily. When he signed my book I told him my favorite character so far was Jakob and he seemed surprised and said nobody ever picks Jakob.

So how is the Devils? How does it compare to the First Law books?

O hell no, he could go kick rocks

Yea that is a bit surprising. But not surprising that's the chapter he picked. That's the one where it goes back in forth between POV's during the same fight right? Pretty incredible writing. That's probably my least favorite of the stand alone trilogy but that part was about as good as it gets. Just edge of your seat reading.

Did he mention when part two or whatever it will be called will roughly be out? Or if that's even his next release.

I'm only 230 or so pages in, but it's pretty different. It is definitely Abercrombie but it is clearly not First Law. Has it's graphic parts and character driven but has more comedic parts to it. Not saying it's trying to be a comedy but it's got some pretty good one liners and the crew rags on each other pretty regularly. Very fun and entertaining read so far.

He did not. I think he was just ready for the book tour to end. That was his last US stop on the tour.

It’s definitely his most comedic. I have one chapter left of Part 3 and I can’t count the times I’ve laughed from their banter.
