probably rank them Best Served Cold, Red Country, and then The Heroes. Though you'd probably hear a lot of people say that The Heroes is their favorite,
I'd personally go Red Country, best served cold, then the heroes. And I think the stand alone books are the best stuff in the series by a decent amount.

Finished Last Argument of Kings yesterday also. Picked up Best Served Cold today and should knock out most of it this weekend.
The ending with Dow and Ninefingers seemed pretty random, but I guess makes sense if Dow’s reasoning is that he thinks Logan will just be another Bethod.
It looks like I was right to not fully trust Bayaz. He’s not the enemy….but he’s heading in that direction. I think he might end up being the one they’re fighting in the end.
And what a brutal outcome for West. Hope he’s able to recover or else one of the best characters will have a game of thrones type ending.
The Rews reveal caught me completely by surprise. Good stuff.
I love all the Northmen. Grim going down hit hardest out of all the deaths. I don’t even know why because he barely has any lines but I loved that dude
Great series and can’t wait for the standalones

going to check that out and the Cradle series
Yes, can't recommend Will Wight enough. He and Dinniman with the Dungeon Crawler Carl books are probably my favorite authors in terms of just pure fun reads right now.
Cradle also has good character development on top of that.

Yea I’ve heard Cradle is “fun” fantasy vs a lot of the darker stuff. Easy to root for the good guy etc. About 75% first Greatcoats and still loving, got next two checked out already.

Is the 2nd Trilogy of Red Rising any good or should I just stop after the first trilogy
I finished Leviathan Wakes and Old Man’s War and o really enjoyed them both.
I know I will continue both those series.

Iron Gold is a change of pace because it focuses on multiple POV characters instead of only Darrow. It can seem like a slog at times as it sets up those additional characters. That said, Dark Age and Light Bringer are in my top 3 of the series so I highly recommend continuing if you enjoyed the first trilogy.

Red rising second half is as good or better than first. Getting more povs helps it honestly.

Yea Red Country and BSC are pretty much even for me but I think the adventure aspect and Shivers story arc makes me say BSC if I had to choose. I'm in a First Law Facebook group just to see if any news pops up but it kind of surprised me how many people on there think The Heroes is his best book overall, not just of the standalones.

Whew, I LOVE the stand alones, but I don't know if I can go so far as to put them over Before They Are Hanged and Last Argument of Kings.
On another note, I finished Morning Star last night and started Mistborn. Pretty pumped for this series.

Stick with Mistborn, it took me a second to get/like the magic system. I came to it from Wheel and it took like 1/3 or the book til
It started gelling.

I just started Red Country on Monday and am really liking it so far. It hooked me quicker than Best Served Cold and The Heroes. My favorite of the standalones has been the Heroes, mainly because I really liked Gorst. I finished the Age of Madness trilogy on Sunday and damn, they were awesome. I think First Law/Great Leveller/Age of Madness trilogies have been my favorite books that I've read in a long time. I usually read to help go to sleep but had to stay away from them at night because I'd be up a few hours later than normal reading.

I'm a huge western fan, which why Red Country is such a huge favorite of mine. Abercrombie's take on Shane with the first trilogy character is fantastic. I'm also a sucker for revenge stories, which why I love BSC.
I think the stand alones have the best written individual scenes in the series too. I'm always torn between whether the shifting POV battle scene from The heroes or the Glama Golden duel scene in Red Country are the best scenes he's written.

I’m on the second book of cradle but honestly struggling. The magic system and world is just really hard to follow. Any insight?

It took me 3 books before realizing I was reading anime. I felt like quite the idiot, but the realization made reading the series more enjoyable.

I accidentally started reading on like Book 6 of Cradle.... talk about being confused.
About 30 pages in, I realized that it wasn't the first book and went back and started with Book 1. Then it made a lot more sense.

It picks up quite a bit in the third book (kinda as Lindon picks up more powers). The more the cast of characters grows the better it gets. The magic system just varies greatly because everyone has different power types. He will go more in depth into the main groups powers as they develop or are shown though.
I personally found the 1st book decent, 2nd solid, 3rd and 4th very good, and then the series takes off like a freight train in book 5.

Yeah, it's basically an anime fantasy mashup with some sci Fi parts mixed in.

I'm pretty much at the end of my list of things I wanted to read this year. I think I'm going to start Suneater next. My library has most of them in audible format so I can listen while driving.
Any other recommendations to hold me over until Wind and Truth comes out?

Just know that Suneater starts slow... but it's worth sticking with it.
