Published authors: discuss your works

I'll start. My first 2 novels are shown in my sig. They're mysteries featuring a reluctant, unqualified "detective" -- actually a department store employee. He's got a group of friends and co-workers who serve as his assistants in solving crime. Heavy on dialog and humor, light on hard-boiled detective action.
I've written three more books in the series and looking for a new publisher in Louisiana. I lived in the Midwest when the first one was published and I'm ready to move on from that publishing house.
If anyone wants to discuss the torture of finding a publisher, I can also address that issue.

I've only submitted two things for publishing ever - and only to the Nicholls State literary magazine. Both made it. That was years ago. I've tried to write a time or two since then but I lack the patience or the inspiration to keep at it.
The first was a story titled Mid Term Fever about a student who falls asleep in the library studying and dreams of meeting people like Pavov, Einstein and Hemingway.
The other was a short story titled Juke Boxes and Twists of Lime about a guy who wakes up with a hangover and his conversations with his friend about heartbreak over a girl, drinking, etc.
I found them in an old chest recently and read them. They were a little rough around the edges but pretty good I thought.

That is indeed a big challenge. It took me 5 years to finish the first novel. I had to force myself to write some days. But then I got into a rhythm, found a time to write every day (forcing myself to do it some days) and it got easier.
It's like exercising. Hard at first, then after you've done it consistently for awhile, it gets easier.

Writing my dissertation cured me of this desire given it was a scientific book.
