I just finished The Fish that Ate the Whale. Sam Zemurray’s story opened my eyes to a few topics I’d enjoy reading more about. Hoping this board can help with a few recs.
1. A book about the explorers/expeditions that discovered the Americas
2. A book that covers the experience of European Jews after ww2 before Israel was formed
3. A book about the history of Israel that would help better explain the history behind the current Israeli/Palestinian conflict

This story is so damn interesting. Wilder than anything you can make up. I did the books on tape and it was fantastic. Borrow from your local library.

Another books on tape masterpiece for me. Really quite a ride for those two.

This is very good podcast on the history, it listens more like an audiobook. 4 parts/15+ hours long. Fear and Loathing in New Jerusalem.

2 books I’ve enjoyed that are in the wheelhouse of what you seek:
The Lewis and Clark actual journals from their exploration trip. There are various versions but as close to the original version you can find. There are several in modern printing.
Suite Francaise by Irene Nemirovsky. Her journals made into a novel about the experience of Parisians prior to 1940 approximately as the war got going. The Author wound up dying in Auschwitz.

I liked the conquest of new spain - bernal diaz
It’s considered one of the more accurate accounts and his stories about the interactions between cortes and montezuma are excellent
Translations are a little rigid but very readable

Leon Uris -
The Exodus
The Haj
Herman Wouk -
The Hope
The Glory
All four of those are good reads but are very tilted to a pro-Israeli point of view. They all largely gloss over the brutal Jewish terror campaigns of the Mandate era.
