It very well may contain the most profound, powerful, and startingly accurate words of any work in western Lit.
The imagery of an inquisitor burning Christ at the stake gives me chills
"In place of the clear and rigid ancient law, You [oh Lord] made man decide about good and evil for himself, with no other guidance than Your example. But did it never occur to You that man would disregard Your example, even question it, as well as Your truth, when he was subjected to so fearful a burden as freedom of choice?"
"In the end they will lay their freedom at our feet and say to us, Make us your slaves, but feed us."

I just went back and re-read that chapter also. Very powerful indeed.

could probably read that once a week for the rest of my life and find something new in it each time ...

This is definitely one of those chapters that you could have an eight hour discussion on. I wish I had read it before going on my ACTS retreat.....it would have made for an incredible topic to cover.

I remember when I read this book, I was cruising through it and enjoying it, but not really getting the hype. Then I read the Grand Inquisitor. I went back and read it 2 more times and the book got elevated to a new status. I still enjoy reading it from time to time.
