I have heard it is not like other sci-fi works, and is much more allegorical and has christian udnertones.

My regular advice is if it a genre you like, go ahead and read it for no other reason than to form your own opinion.
Personally, I enjoyed it

I've read all three. They're very short books, maybe 350-400 pages combined if I remember correctly. Didn't pick up on an overt amount of Christian allegory, definitely way less than his Narnia work. CS Lewis is just a great writer and great at created fantastic worlds. Not a lot of action but interesting things do happen. It's worth a read.

Good reads. Lewis is a terrific writer; great imagery and characters.

Out of the Silent Planet and Perelandra were great. Currently on That Hideous Strength. Definitely worth the read. A friend of mine swears they're some of Lewis's best works.

From what I remember (read the first two in HS, was supposed to read the 3rd, but didn't) there were a lot of Camelot allegories.
