Got it for Christmas, taking a flight and thinking of bringing it.
Worth bringing? TIA

I’ve heard it’s a good read. I’ve also heard one scholar (forget who) say it’s a bit exaggerated.

I read the one about the Scots and it was pretty good.

It was a fun read. It would have been interesting to hear historians expert in the field fact check it after reading though.
And by civilization they mean Judeo Christian Greco Roman literature

So did I , and it's a more factual claim than anything the Irish can boast.

No but I think they stole the Title from E. Donnall Thomas Jr.

I enjoyed it, read it about seven years ago. It is not an exhaustive, academic treatment. It is a lighter, popular history but with research. Worthwhile as far as I am concerned, I own a couple of Thomas Cahill's other books, but have not read them, yet.
I brought it and left it at the house we rent between Gulf Shores and Fort Morgan, read it while there for vacation. It is really suited to that, it is enough to learn somethings but yet not so heavy as to be a drudgery on vacation in a nice spot.

If you are Irish and don't care much about evidence or accuracy,it is a good read.
The bits about St Patrick and St Brigid are pretty neat.
The whole thing about the Irish having much impact on saving "civilization" is very exaggerated and kind of silly.
There was the entire Eastern Roman Empire that survived through the late Middle Ages and had maintained everything. The Islamic Empires saved much of it, too.
