Anyone ever read this? I'm usually a pretty big King fan, but this book is just plain terrible, IMHO. Read The Dead Zone right before this and loved it but just cant get into this book.

Definitely one of his poorer efforts. It’s the one where he also published a Richard Bachman novel, the regulators, with the exact same characters in a kind of alternate universe.

I think it’s sandwhich between Dolores Claiborne and rose madder which are both not good King works. Maybe he was having a rough time in the 90s. Pretty sure he was off coke by then.

I will have to avoid it. Insomnia was that way for me. King writes some real crap sometimes even within a decent book.

Rose Madder isn't one of my favorites, but I enjoyed reading it.

‘Christine’ is one of King’s more underrated books

Yeah, Insomnia is pretty good. But then so is Desperation. I wouldn't put either in King's top books, but they are both very solid reads.

Tommyknockers was the only book of his I could not finish.

Near 1000 pages of dull. And had a friend tell me the ending. I was very glad I’d stopped reading after hearing the end.

I read desperation when I was a teenager. For some reason I remember loving it. In fact, it is probably my favorite Stephen King novel, no lie!

I wasn’t very critical and I certainly was let very well read so I probably wouldn’t enjoy it as much as an adult.

But I look back on it fondly. Especially the last few chapters.

I read it many years ago. Picked it up cheap at the bookstore.

I agree with what others have said ... not one his better books.

A few of my personal favorites:
- Salem's Lot
- The Stand
- Pet Semetary
- 11/22/63

My absolute favorite is The Long Walk ... probably read it 5 times.

I don't mind it. I'm not sure that's a great endorsement, but it was a fun read. I love the isolation of the town, the imagery, etc. I thought it worked. It was out there, but it worked.
