His books on Truman and John Adams are two of my favorite biographies. RIP to a great writer. Yes, he was great on the Civil War documentary and The American Experience too.

Two years ago I managed to stumble upon a First Edition Hard Cover of 'The Path Between the Seas' at Cottenwood Books. Bought it immediately.

Haven't taken the time to read it, as I've always found an excuse not to because I couldn't focus on the book.

Life has gotten less stressful and hectic, and I now have time. I really need to read it, as I'm linked to Panama through my heritage and have always loved the country and am absolutely fascinated by the Canal.

My Grandfather was born and raised in teh Canal Zone, met my Grandmother (who was born and raised in West Virginia) when she was his nurse in the hospital down there (Nurse for the Army. Accepted a Position in Panama. That was the first time in her life she ever ventured outside the Ohio River Valley. The woman had some great tales. Her story of when she arrived in New York on the train is one of my favorite stories ever).

They raised all six of their kids down there.

I have been to Panama and have watched the Canal locks do their job. It is an incredible thing to see. Any engineer or anybody who is interested in engineering should make that an item on their bucket list.

It truly is the greatest engineering feat in the history of mankind. And I'm including the Apollo program on that list.

Cool history. My grandfather caught malaria going through the Panama Canal in the 30’s. He survived. McCullough was great at storytelling. I read 1776 first of his and kept thinking “no way these American’s can win this”! Ha. RIP.
