I don't get the hate for AFFC and aDwD. I really enjoyed those books a lot. I felt like they had the right mix of action and internal dialogue/thoughts and the stories were really amazing. I've seen where people say that nothing happens but I thought there was a lot that happened and they set up the third act of the series really well for what should be two of the most awesome fantasy books ever written.

Now I do believe GRRM should have used the Boiled Lesther approach and maybe some of y'all should read it that way if you do a re-read

I'm definitely going to do a re-read using the boiled leather order. There was a lot I missed in those two books....especially AFFC.

I basically half-assed Brienne's chapters until she got to the Quiet Isle and Lady Stoneheart. I honestly can't remember much about who Nimble Dick was.

Nimble Dick is about as important as the pigeon Arya killed in Flea Bottom.

I've said before that aSoS is the best book I have ever read but that shouldn't take away from AFFC and aDwD.

In AFFC we have Cercei's downfall which was outstanding.
Arya's travels to Bravos and badass training.
Jamie and his adjustments with being free again and learning to live with one hand.
Sam and Gillys baby swap and travels to the Citadel with Maester Aemon along with Sams pov of the NW.
Briennes chapters which I think are underrated.
Sansa's travels and experiences at the Eyrie and dealing with LF.
The Greyjoy story arcs.
Arianne and Dorne.

Lots of great stuff there.

The cannot be rated lowly enough. They were boring, pointless, and basically just were a long, drawn-out wild goose chase that was a huge middle finger to the reader until she got caught by the BWB.

Just finished the chapter where Xaro offers her 13 ships to GTFO and Selmy gets on his knees and begs Dany to take it.

She doesn't of course.

Possibly the most frustrating chapter in the series.

Don't forget all the chapters at the Wall with Jon and Mel and in the North with Theon/Reek--granted, those are in Dance rather than Feast.

What made Feast good to me were the Sansa, Arya, Cersei, and Jaime chapters...and it's not even close. I really didn't care about the Greyjoys or the Dornish except when Myrcella had her ear chopped off and face disfigured by Darkstar, and trying to figure out what Doran's actual endgame is.

After a review of the GNC, just how decimated is the North as a whole?...How much damage was done to Robb's army after TRW? Then add in Dustin, Manderly et al @ Winterfell...

And Jon let in a shite load of Wildings after Stannis's route @ the wall...i think those forces are in decent shape, better than medium...am I way off?

I liked the Dornish chapters much more than the Greyjoy chapters.

The Cersei chapters are my favorite though because she's such an evil dumbass.

It really is fantastic. The reread itself was great because there is so much great detail in those two books that you miss on first read. But when you take the chapters in chronological order, it makes it even better.

Davos' chapters are pretty awesome as well.

I'm going to be extremely jacked up if we get a Davos on Skagos chapter in TWOW. Unicorns, cannibals, and shite.

I think a big reason why readers get so down on AFFC and aDwD is because they haven't seen them played out on screen yet. So maybe a lot of the subtleties are missed or overlooked. Especially if you've only read them once.

I didn't even touch on aDwD because it's an amazing book on its own and I feel like AFFC is the book that gets the least credit. But yea aDwD has a ton going on in it.

I really enjoyed Dorne and the Iron Island storylines because they give us a glimpse of the world surrounding everything going on from Kings Landing to the Wall and the ulterior motives mixed with past moves (Myrcella) and how that intertwines with the main storylines.

Those two books just set up the final act brilliantly to me and have positioned ASOIAF to have a legendary finale.

Oh and definitely can't wait to read about Skaggos and those death unicorns doe!

Nimble DIck 's little history lesson I think was very informative. Also, I think Brienne needed to take the journey out to the Whispers mentally to complete her character arc eventually. People are just impatient to get to the endgame. I understand. However, what has created this all-consuming impatience has been GRRM's ability to create a fully populated world that has caught the reader's interest. Not every character is ultimately important, but their sheer number makes the whole world much more interesting. Hell, Dolorous Edd won't likely be that important to the end, but I will miss him greatly.

Finkle, good points all. I do think that some of the stuff in those books will play out better on screen than they did in the books.

We get some of it this season, though. Brienne takes off this week with Pod, which is a little early for them to not include some of AFFC.
