Welp, it's official... Winds of Winter isn't coming out any time soon. And by anytime soon I mean we'll be lucky to see it in 2017.

I'm still trying to decide if I will watch the show this year, or wait for the book. I'm convinced it will be out before 2017.

There do seem to be enough differences between the show and books, so I don't think watching the show would ruin things. But, obviously, there will be some major reveals this year.

quote:

Just consider. Mago, Irri, Rakharo, Xaro Xhoan Daxos, Pyat Pree, Pyp, Grenn, Ser Barristan Selmy, Queen Selyse, Princess Shireen, Princess Myrcella, Mance Rayder, and King Stannis are all dead in the show, alive in the books. Some of them will die in the books as well, yes... but not all of them, and some may die at different times in different ways. Balon Greyjoy, on the flip side, is dead in the books, alive on the show. His brothers Euron Crow's Eye and Victarion have not yet been introduced (will they appear? I ain't saying). Meanwhile Jhiqui, Aggo, Jhogo, Jeyne Poole, Dalla (and her child) and her sister Val, Princess Arianne Martell, Prince Quentyn Martell, Willas Tyrell, Ser Garlan the Gallant, Lord Wyman Manderly, the Shavepate, the Green Grace, Brown Ben Plumm, the Tattered Prince, Pretty Meris, Bloodbeard, Griff and Young Griff, and many more have never been part of the show, yet remain characters in the books. Several are viewpoint characters, and even those who are not may have significant roles in the story to come in THE WINDS OF WINTER and A DREAM OF SPRING.

I don't see how you can take anything of substance away from a shittily written article from a kpop fan site

I've learned to lower my expectations in life so I can only be pleasantly surprised and never disappointed.

So I expect GRRM to never release another book in the series and for some other author to finish the series after his death, which won't be for at least another 5 years

So, I had no idea that they cast Lyanna f'ing Stark until I saw that on the last page. It's been way too long since i've even looked in this thread, much less posted.

Looking forward to April!

Could Jaime be the logical choice to join with Aegon?? I mean one of his great regrets was not saving Rhaegar's children, and if he believed Aegon was truly who he says he is, why wouldn't he flock to his side. Does he really feel a sense of connection to Tommen?

Tommen is his son, so I doubt he would align with someone who is trying to dethrone his son.

The problem is - Jaime's newfound "honor" - he knows the child is neither legitimate nor truly royal - whatever those words mean in a "might makes right" world. So, while he might negotiate for Tommen's safety/amnesty/parole etc., he also knows that Cersei is barking mad - the worst, by far, of Tywin's children - all of Tywin's flaws and none of his strengths. Tommen is under Cersei's influence and to oppose Cersei, he must oppose Tommen.

I mean, to get to that point, he has to fight Brienne, left-handed, doesn't he?

I still don't see Jamie siding with Aegon. He may side with Dany and Tyrion when they eventually make it to Westeros, but I'm guessing by then Tommen will have already been killed.

Plus, since I'm fairly certain that Aegon isn't who he says he is, I don't see Jamie getting caught up with him.

ETA: Although I guess I could see a scenario where Jamie teams up with him at first, only to be the one to figure out the Aegon is Blackfyre or something. But again, I would think that Tommen would already have to be out of the picture for Jamie to take a side opposing his son.

I think this will happen. Keep in mind what the political atmosphere is likely to be in Winds of Winter. The Boltons are likely fricked due to losing "Arya" and Manderly's and Lady Dustin's men will likely kill the Boltons and their army once they know "Arya" is gone (although I think the Bastard will make a quick escape). Stannis is overrunning the North. Lady Stoneheart will have likely taken over Riverrun and the Freys will have lost most of their hostages. Euron is raiding the Reach and Cersei refuses to send an army to protect them. Myrcella will likely have been killed as well by a Sand Snake or some agent of Varys or Littlefinger. Littlefinger is now planning on openly betraying the Lannisters to seat Sansa as the Queen in the North. And now Aegon has returned, with whispers of the Dragon Queen in the East coming back to her birthplace. All this points to one thing: the Lannisters are totally screwed.

Jaime is smart enough to see the writing on the walls that Tommen will not remain king for much longer and be killed. And even worse, the person most likely to kill Tommen is with him at almost all times: his own mother. Cersei will be batshit crazy in Winds of Winter and would kill Tommen in order to "spare him". I think in the episode "Blackwater" where Cersei attempts to poison Tommen, that will actually happen in Winds of Winter.

I think that Jaime would come to the conclusion that Aegon is the only one who could spare Tommen. Keep in mind Robert came to the throne by butchering children, Aegon himself supposedly being among them. Jaime will go to Aegon, plead for him to spare Tommen's life, admit Tommen is his son, and ask Aegon to make Tommen a legitimate Lannister and Warden of the West to make the Westerlands come quietly and not sit upon the throne having murdered children. Aegon will agree to this, but Varys would not oblige the request. When Aegon invaded King's Landing, Cersei will poison Tommen before Jaime can save him from his own mother. Then Jaime will throttle her after telling her why he really killed Aerys.

Stannis won't be overrunning the North. I'm betting he won't even make it past the first half of Winds of Winter.

Yeah but Ser Justin Massey is under strict orders and support of the Iron Bank to return with no less than 20,000 men regardless of Stannis' death. Shireen is safe at the wall.

I also think the Tyrell's grab for power with Kevan dead. The Lannisters are all but spent, the only power they have left is in name.

Manderly Speech

Manderly is like Vito Corleone from the Godfather. He knows how to slow play his hand and everyone underestimates him. I hope his character appears in the show.

I don't think Jaime gives much of a frick about Tommen, sadly. At least not enough to beg Aegon to spare him. Jaime is a reborn man of honor but he's still an a-hole. He likely sees Tommen as Cersei's kid, not his. Tommen will die though, it is known.
