I’m trying to remember either author or title:
Its about a writer in Baton Rouge who owns a monthly business periodical/publication in town. He gets into financial trouble and he starts “kiting” checks for large amounts. He gets busted and is sentenced to prison. At that time in the 80’s, white collar criminals where being sent to a facility in Carville, LA, which was basically a Leper Colony. So half the place was lepers and the other half was white collar criminals like this guy. He gives a very poignant account about his time there and his experiences with the lepers. I cant remember the name of the book, I hope someone here can.

Unsurprisingly, not the only book set at that facility in Carville.

Stephen R. Donaldson's The Chronicles of Thomas Covenant kicks off its inaugural story, Lord Foul's Bane with the protagonist dealing with a leprosy (Hansen's Disease) diagnosis and treatment in Carville, before embarking on a fantasy adventure in another universe.

As a product of LSU's ROTC program in the late 1980s and a Louisiana National Guard member whose unit was on the grounds of the hospital and museum, I am very familiar with the facility, at least as it was 10 to 20 years ago.

Got it Tuesday, finished it today.
Great book, Neil White definitely changed for the better, if indeed he has maintained his new outlook on life. I am guessing he did as he finished his sentence in 1992? and didn't write the book until 2009.

Recommended.

Just finished Miracle at Carville by Betty Martin which was written in 1950 after she and her husband Harry Martin (not their real names) were cured, there. This is a tremendous book if you can find it.
