im just developing a farm. ive raised a crop of pastured broilers and are working on fence for livestock. here are a few books ive read or are reading
1 Lasater philosophy of cattle raising
2 salad bar beef
3 cattleman ive known - Laurance Lasater
4 pastured poultry profits
5 no risk ranching
6 healthy farm, profitable business, happy families *somethin like that* - dave pratt, ranch management consultants
7 tree crops
8 thoughts and advice from an old cattleman
does any one else here consume such material? id appreciate any recommendations if so. thanks

For one of my Psych classes, I did a brief review of some Temple Grandin content. Thought her Guide to Working with Farm Animals was interesting (even if all of the information may or may not be utilized).

gosh theyre all really good IMO. Joel Salatin ive come to think has a strange singular genius so any of his books are just great. thoughts and advice from an old cattleman was the first i read long before i thought id be farming. that one has left the biggest impression b/c it was first. the two Lasater books are great storytelling. theyre all great and quick reads get em all id say. do you have any recs?

Check out the stockman grass farmer library / book recommendations. I’m just heading down the rabbit hole myself. Only interested in cattle so not as broad as your interest.
I’ve read thoughts and advice, pasture profits with stocker cattle, and reading no risk ranching. All have been informative.
Also my favorite podcasts are ranching returns, ranchonomics, and working cows.
When I get my herd bigger than 5 one day (lol) I would like to attend ranching for profit and a sell buy marketing school.

Total hodgepodge of what I’ve been able to throw together cheaply. One Jersey, one half Jersey/half red angus, and 3 nice black angus heifers.
If I get my hands on a lease I’d eventually like to go to South poll.
