Hey guys, I’m looking at getting a lab for the family. Does anyone have any books they recommend for training?

There is only one: Water Dog by Richard Wolters

Older book but still applicable. He has a series of books for different uses of labs but his training methods apply for just house dogs as well. Even if you don't hunt them, these books still work as they are happiest if you just teach them simple working tasks like retrieving. This guy really understands labs from a lifetime of XP.

There's a local guy with a very popular youtube channel all on dog training, and it's quite good. I can't remember his name at the moment, but if you google you'll probably find him. I'll update here if I find it.

ETA: my point being he also has a book I believe, so you should check out his videos and read his book. I learned of him from people at dog parks who swear by his methods.

Yep, water dog and gun dog are fantastic books for beginners learning to train labs. Hell, I used most of the basic techniques on my dobermans.
