In reaction to Damar Hamlin's scary situation, Garrett Bush, one of the hosts of the Ultimate Cleveland Sports Show, went off about the NFL not really caring about its players at all this week...

If players don't like it, choose another job. They have options like everyone else.

What is our problem with NFL players asking NFL management for better conditions? Why would you not want better working conditions for yourself? It may be unamerican to look like you do not support business. Businesses should take care of their workers too.

To YellowShoe, these teams have poured millions into training facilities, medical personnel, training personnel, dietitians, etc. Unless they start playing two hand tap football then how do you make conditions any better? You’re taking people who, if we are being honest, wouldn’t be making near the amount of money in any other profession. They are entitled brats, imho. Hopefully some of them are actually grateful for the opportunity to be in the position they’re in.

The NFL should say, "Okay, we will disband and you guys can go find other employment that will pay you millions of dollars a year".

For the players ya know

A childish response.

Business men have used goons, police etc to quell workers asking for better working conditions. NFL franchisers have used lockouts, replacement players etc. Is it reasonable to think that those people have the guts to shutdown a league that has been miniting money for them?

I didn't like the young black men comment. I gues young white men don't get hurt in NFL. The rest of what he said was spot on. Although if you are making that kind of money you should have an insurance policy yourself. Especially if you know the NFL policy on injuries.

Average Americans have to get their own insurance. It's simple, "don't like the rules?" then don't play.

If you have health insurance becuase your employer pays for it or you buy it, congrats. However, the number of full time workers with health insurance declined, according to last census. (inc. private coverage). LINK

No one can afford health insurance anymore BECAUSE THE GOV IS INVOLVED! Same thing with education, once the commies get involved so that they can line their pockets, there is no where near a free market any longer that would keep prices down...competition ya know.

Pure corruption here folks...disguised as righting a wrong...of course.

I guess those players can always fall back on those college educations that worked so diligently to obtain.

What is the issue with saying NFL should take care of its workers? No different than Amazon warehouse workers and their working conditions. Granted that number of black players in NFL is higher than the average workplace and you might think that such a place should be a gulag.

I stopped watching the NFL 5 years ago…mark my words: the players and myopic soft mindsets will end this sport - I suggest make the transition away now.

The players and NFLPA has EVERY CHANCE to put improvements in their pension, medical and insurance packages when they get a new CBA but you rarely see it as a sticking point. Why? Because they don’t prioritize them in their negotiations. Because it is all about money to the players too (mostly the stars). They want so many days of OTAs or so many days without pads. Or the NFLPA wants a suspension for molesting a masseuse to only be 12 games instead of a year. And the NFL Stars are the ones wielding the power. That guy getting their 25 million dollar yearly salary can do something to give guys like Hamlin a better safety net but they don’t. And these players can do exactly what MILLIONS of americans do every month that get paid less than they do. They write a check (or have it auto drafted) to an health insurance company or retirement fund. Almost everybody across the country gets their check and has to use a little agency to decide what is best for their future. Buying a new car or paying Blue Cross or AFLAC for some long term disability coverage.

They care about them the same way a factory owner cares about his machines. Their assets that need to be taken care of. If one stops working, it gets replaced. It's a cruel profession, but that's what it is.

Who is this commie blowhard? Did I hear him say that the gov is the expert here? Hahaha. Lord have mercy, this is the product or our educational system here folks.

Did he say he's filled out 250k disability claims in a year!? So he's a tax-feeding parasite on steroids?

His answer to this problem like all gov brainwashed dumb-asses like him is: MAKE THE TAXPAYER PAY MORE! Squirrels like him actually think that the gov has it's own money and that they just need to con a bunch pols into giving them some.

The gov doesn't have its own money kids, they have to steal it from you and me and get the banksters to print up more when that ain't enough. And when they print more they then put that on our credit card bill WITH INTEREST so people yet to be born can also pitch in and pay their FAIR SHARE.

Pensions? Don't even get be started on that crock of shite. How many gov deadhead workers or ex deadhead works are WE paying to retire at 50 YEARS OLD...just because they worked some gov fckn job? That's coming outta your wallet and your kids' wallet while cops and senators and every other gov job robs us blind after 20 years of "service."

Anyway...don't expect to see an itemized accounting on your pay stub noting that buck and a half extraction is going to NFL team owners to pay for those who have played and who got hurt. Jessie and Al won't be thanking you either.

I deal with the NFL on field safety issues and it amazes me how little they care about this. They want the cheapest possible surface and opt out of the best available technology. It is counter intuitive, you would think they would care about whats best for the players and in most of my experience they don't seem to from either lack of knowledge or by not being engaged.
