Kamara is due just $2.133M in the final year of his rookie contract. As far as notable recent top running back extensions, they include: Christian McCaffrey (4-years, $64 million), Ezekiel Elliott (6-years, $90 million) and Derrick Henry (4-years, $50 million).

Back on August 21st, the Saints and Kamara reportedly began contract extension talks and it seems the absences from practice were unexpected for the team.

According to a report by Jeremy Fowler of ESPN, the Saints began talking with Kamara about a contract extension. Although nothing was imminent towards an agreement being reached, New Orleans expressed through their proposal to Kamara that they value his contributions to the team and believe he is an "elite" running back. The Saints are also sensitive to the fact that Kamara played injured for much of last year. Earlier this month, Kamara shared publicly that he suffered a torn MCL in 2019 and played through it.

Just clicked the article to see what he was crying about... not watching so I really don’t care. Over paid idiots who toss a ball around... that’s enough to qualify him for mayor of NOLA.

You people are ruthless. The Saints started contract extension talks with him already, he played through a MCL, he is good and has contributed tremendously for the Saints up to now, and the Saints called him an Elite Back... WTF do you expect him to do. That goodwill playing through the MCL, and his production, and helping bring the Saints to the brink of the Superbowl 3 straight years = Pay the man! I say offer him 4 years 32M and sign Fournette for 4 years 24M (which he might not take) then give him the same 8 per year or if you have to 10M per year. Sell the pitch that they will rotate the backs and keep them healthier and fresh and not wear them out, especially in Saints pass happy offense. Also, the fact that Brees will only be there 1 more year, so a balanced rush attack will be needed. That way, they can have another chance at a big 3-4 year contract at 29-30 years old for another 8-10m per season.

So you want to pay out $14 million a year to RB's that Sean Payton under utilizes? Remember when Ingram was getting $4 mil and was pissed on the sidelines because he wanted the ball? Kamara is versatile but his max combined yards for a season is 1592 with half that coming from the passing game. Let him sit out. The seasons gonna be bullshite anyway and then he will be a free agant.

They should have traded him in the offseason, no RB in Sean Payton's offense is worth $10 million, much less $16 million or whatever he's asking.

Dude is good and he knows most running backs don’t have a long career. So, yeah as a fan it sucks but not one of us would do anything different in his shoes.

It's a pretty standard move for running backs now
