More Than 3,000 Players Entered Transfer Portal This Offseason
© Jennifer Buchanan-USA TODAY Sports
We all know the college game has changed due to the transfer portal. According to an ESPN report, more than 3,600 FBS players are in the portal right now. That turnover is incredible...
quote:

“Last year — even before the free one-time transfer rule was made official — more than 1,000 players entered the portal in April, and nearly 800 more followed in May,” writes David M. Hale and Kyle Bonagura of ESPN.com. “This year, there are already more than 3,600 FBS players in the portal, and the biggest question on many coaches’ minds as spring practices wrap up is how many more might soon join them.”
Is this helping or hurting the game?(The Spun)

The often untold side of the story will be that many of the 3000+ will not find a chair when the music stops! Not everyone will leave whatever level program and find a spot at an equal level program. They will have to go down in level just to find a spot - if they can. And there's not guarantee where they end will provide scholarships. These players leave for what they think will be greener grass and they will find nothing but a dirt road.

It's so high because this is the first year with no 1 yr wait restriction, so you literally have 4 classes of recruits taking advantage of it for the first time. It'll drop back down next year

Here’s a novel idea, commit somewhere that wants and needs you to play. Don’t go be a shelf piece at Alabama. If you just want to play at Alabama because it’s cool to be on the best team, then don’t end up playing. What’s the point? Go somewhere that wants you

NCAA will have to address this and I think schools should start to put restrictions on scholarships for these puddle jumpers!

The problem is there is no guarantee of takers when most of these kids jump ship. They can put their name in the Portal and end up going from LSU to Akron. This actually happened.

it's destroying (or has already destroyed) college football.

Nah, this will be fixed, at some point. MIL, though? Yeah, that shite is going to alter football in a bad way.

Definitely hurting the game but they aren't worried about the game only themselves
