"Valvano made Houston's other 4 shoot FT's the last 5 minutes and pulled it off."
And brought about the bonus + to the college game. I was sad to see him pass. But, he and Dean Smith did all they could to f up college basketball.

Are you referring to the “four corners” strategy of Smith?

I remember watching that 83 title game. Houston was unbeatable and NC State was lucky to be there. We had been playing pickup ball after school and everyone had Houston penciled in. I said, I don't know, NC State just keeps winning. Valvano saw the one thing nobody else did. Reid Gettys was the only guy Houston had that was a great FT shooter. Valvano made Houston's other 4 shoot FT's the last 5 minutes and pulled it off.
