Fergie's jazzy rendition of the National Anthem at Sunday's NBA All-Star was liked by no one and has been dragged through the mud since. You can watch it here. No the pop singer has come out and apologized for it...
quote:

The singer tells us, "I've always been honored and proud to perform the national anthem and last night I wanted to try something special for the NBA. I'm a risk taker artistically, but clearly this rendition didn't strike the intended tone. I love this country and honestly tried my best."
We forgive you. Mariah Carey had her back though...

The nba had an all star game? I missed it, dang the anthem is the only thing worth watching in the nba.

Some people can't accept that this song is meant to be played and sung as it was written. It isn't open for interpretation or for "artists" to try and change it. Watch the Whitney Houston version pre Bobby Brown crack days if you have any questions about how it is to be sung.

That was not an apology. It was an admittance that the rendition was crap. But it was not an apology.

I don't think she needed to apologize. It was just a bad decision.

I didn't say she needed to. Larry called it an apology, which it isn't.

The NBA couldn't drag Bette Midler out of her palatial Bell Air estate to do this? Come on really? Wake up Adam Silver!!

Good for her. I believe her. Here's the first step for all of these "artists". The National Anthem is not a canvas for you to "paint". Neither is it an Ode To Me-Me-Me. Just play/sing it straight. Then nobody will be disappointed or angry or amused. It's an ANTHEM, not a rock tune or a soul song or R&B. It's an ANTHEM.

Tell that to Jimi Hendrix. It was pretty bad, but I didn't think it was disrespectful or anything (I'll admit I only listened to about half of it). Almost feel bad for her. She tried something different and it didn't work. At least she's owning up to it.

Jimi Hendrix did his at Woodstock. I'm kinda stunned you can't see the difference.

You're right. Take for example Pink's performance at the superbowl. Perfect.

Big of her to admit it, most wouldn't. I give her a pass.

Responsibility for the disaster lies strictly with the NBA. If they didn’t know what she was going to do, they damn sure should have. Or maybe they got what their players wanted?
