If you haven't already heard the Miami Marlins Triple-A affiliate, the New Orleans Zephyrs, have changed their name to the New Orleans Baby Cakes...

Per President Lou Schwechheimer...

“Our goal was to give the baseball fans of New Orleans a team and identity they can call their own. New Orleans is full of traditions woven into the fabric of the city, and this new tradition will be something local and iconic and celebrate what makes New Orleans and Minor League Baseball so great: family and fun.”
"Baby Cakes" was selected over other finalists that included Cajun Crawfish, Po’boys, Tailgators, Night Owls, Red Eyes and King Cakes.

Now that is perfectly funny as shite right there. I like it. Very unique.

Don't even think votes were a factor here unless it was 100% women. No way in hell most men wanna tell buddies he is heading out a BabyCakes game Friday eve with his girl.

Based on this decision I hope the zephyrs now leave New Orleans. This is a laughably bad name that is not even shared in the local vernacular.

A fitting mascot, considering.

Que the baby batter jokes.

That's really lame. How about the Soul or the Creoles? Both are tied to the city and they don't suck.

Wouldn't "Baby Cakes" be more appropriate for Mobile's AA team?
