MLB Will Require Teams To Provide Housing For All Minor Leaguers Starting in 2022
Bill Streicher-USA TODAY Sports
Big news for minor league baseball came in on Sunday with the MLB announcing that the league will require teams to provide housing for all minor league players starting next year...

Amid mounting pressure from players and advocacy groups, Major League Baseball will require teams to provide housing for minor league players starting in 2022, sources told ESPN.

While MLB has yet to outline its plan formally, six team officials told ESPN they are starting to prepare to help house players across each of their four minor league affiliates. In mid-September, according to sources, owners from the league's 30 teams agreed unanimously to a plan that would provide housing for minor league players. Whether they will offer stipends that fully cover housing or provide the lodging itself has yet to be decided, sources said. An MLB spokesperson said the league is finalizing the details of the plan.

Good news. Minor leaguers get paid shite. I don't see how they get by.

When I played we stayed at a hotel right by the field. It wasn’t paid for, but they did give us a major discount. This kept us from stuffing 5 plus people in one place. Unrelated, on payday, we would take our check to the local casino to get it cashed. Before cashing it they would let us spin the wheel for a chance to double it. Obviously they just wanted us there to spend the money once it was cashed, but all but like 1 or 2 people would leave right after they got their money. Anyway, this is good news for those guys that don’t make a ton of money each month. I know CSB.

I wonder how this will be implemented? Maybe rent out a large bloc of furnished apartments or hotel rooms for both home and visiting teams? They’ll need housekeeping because the rooms will get trashed. Or give the entitled generation a bunch of tents and tell them to camp in the outfield?
