Tim Tebow Brings $44,200 a night to each park he plays In South Atlantic League?
© Joshua S. Kelly-USA TODAY Sports
Tim Tebow is not doing terrible in the minor leagues, but he's not doing amazing enough to garner himself a position in the majors just yet. His impact in his South Atlantic League is what's really impressive about his minor league stint. According to Baseball America, the former NFL QB is bringing an extra $44,200 a night to each park he plays in...
quote:

Based on the April attendance data, the Tebow effect appears to be roughly 2,210 fans per night. Minor league teams estimate that the average fan will spend $20 per person if they come to the ballpark. That counts ticket sales, concessions and souvenirs. So Tebow is worth roughly an additional $44,200 per night.
Impressive. I wonder if MLB is interested I numbers like this, I'd imagine yes. You think he'll get a shot in the majors?

I'd pay $44k for one night with Tebow.

I imagine it is similar to Jordan's stint in the Southern league. Those parks were packed.

If he played in Florida I'd imagine they'd sell a few more tickets. Rooting for the guy either way.

That's what I would think cause of his hometown presence.

He's hitting .236 for the Fireflies, I doubt he's going to get called up anytime soon.

I think MLB is interested in winning and that doesn't include a tour for Tim.

Bringing him up solely for the purpose of generating revenue is a terrible idea and wont actually ever happen. Sure people would show up to the park to check it out. But you cant (and they wont) just put a player who is no where near ready for the MLB in the lineup just because.

I believe it likely depends on the market where he goes. If it's an area like NY...then his presence wouldn't make a big deal. But if its in an area that baseball isn't so popular, a "big name" like Tebow could help revenue. At least for a time.

He must have one hell of a collection plate

He wouldn't be the only star in town for an MLB game and wouldn't generate an additional dime

You don't really believe that, do you?

His presence at a minor league ball park is a big deal. But at the MLB level, where the competition matters, it will just frustrate fans if he is there for his fame and not his game. If he legit earns a spot on a MLB roster, then it would be a big impact

I agree. Tebow would not draw me into watching a Yankees-Red Sox game but for teams like Tampa Bay he may temporarily push the numbers up.
