There was considerable confusion on Wednesday regarding whether interim LSU Athletic Director Verge Ausberry would be elevated to the permanent Athletic Director position.

The confusion stems from comments from new LSU president Wade Rousse, but according to the LSU official website, Ausberry is now listed as Director of Athletics.
quote:

A former LSU football standout and in his 24th year of employment in the athletic department, Verge Ausberry serves as LSU’s Director of Athletics.

Ausberry was previously named the Interim Director of Athletics on Oct. 30, 2025.

The confusion in this was not necessary and frankly embarrassing. It has the look of incompetence on the new president’s part. Trying to somehow insinuate that there is a difference between ‘interim’ and ‘acting’. Whether you support the choice of Ausberry or not that was very unfair to him and definitely not a good look to have that b.s.

The new president proves that it is more important to be politically connected than intelligent, responsible and articulate, in Louisiana.

Interim, acting, or permanent? Pick one because they do not all mean the same thing. Am I overqualified to be the LSU system president? Perhaps.
