Three Tigers Earn SEC Player Of The Week Honors After Dominant Win Over Clemson

LSU had three players earn SEC Player of the Week honors following the Tigers' dominant season-opening win over Clemson.

Quarterback Sam Leavitt was named SEC Offensive Player of the Week after leading the LSU offense in the victory.

The Tigers were also recognized in the trenches on both sides of the ball. Offensive lineman Jordan Seaton was named SEC Offensive Lineman of the Week, while defensive lineman Jordan Ross earned SEC Defensive Lineman of the Week honors.

The three weekly awards come after LSU controlled the matchup against Clemson and opened the season with an impressive statement victory. Per SEC:

LSU’s Sam Leavitt, a redshirt junior quarterback from West Linn, Ore., accounted for three touchdowns — two rushing, one passing — in his first start as a Tiger to lead LSU past No. 23 Clemson, 51-10, in Tiger Stadium. Leavitt rushed for a career-high 113 yards and scored on runs of 8 and 13 yards in the second quarter as LSU built a 31-3 halftime lead. He connected on 16-of-28 passes for 230 yards as the Tigers piled up a school-record 38 first downs and 644 total yards (309 rushing, 335 passing), marking just the sixth time in program history LSU has had 300-plus rushing and passing yards in the same game.

LSU’s Jordan Seaton, a junior offensive tackle from Washington, D.C., anchored an offense that accounted for 644 total yards and a school-record 38 first downs in a 51-10 win over Clemson in his first LSU start. Seaton did not commit a penalty or allow a sack as the Tigers averaged 5.3 yards on 58 rushing attempts, produced a pair of 100-yard rushers and had only two negative offensive plays. After an interception on the opening possession, LSU scored on seven of its final 10 possessions and punted only twice, marking just the sixth time in program history the Tigers have had 300 rushing yards and 300 passing yards in the same game.

LSU’s Jordan Ross, a junior defensive end from Birmingham, Ala., returned a first-quarter interception 30 yards for a touchdown in his first LSU appearance, stretching the Tiger lead to 17-3. On Clemson’s next offensive play, Ross made a tackle for a 4-yard loss, and he finished with four total tackles, a sack for an 11-yard loss and a quarterback hurry in the 51-10 victory. LSU limited Clemson to eight first downs, 145 total yards and just 48 offensive snaps, holding the Tigers to 1-of-13 on third down and forcing 10 punts. On 13 offensive possessions, Clemson went three-and-out eight times, including six straight in the first half as LSU built a 31-3 lead.
