LSU head coach Lane Kiffin was asked Thursday about his approach to coin tosses and whether the Tigers will typically take the ball or defer when given the choice. Kiffin explained that the coaching staff will evaluate the decision week to week using several factors.

“The coin toss is discussed every week. Analytics are referred to,” Kiffin said. “As far as where are we playing? What are the rankings of offense, defense? What is the success of our first drives? The opponent’s first drives, the opponent’s defense, our defense.”

Kiffin added that his teams have historically elected to take the ball more often than not, partly because of how successful his offenses have been early in games. However, he made it clear LSU won't have one set rule for the season, with the decision depending on the opponent and circumstances each week.

“It’s not the old days where you just say, tails never fails or something.”

People got mad at BK for doing it, because they'd go 3 and out everytime and he'd keep doing it. I don't think BK's analytics had any self-awareness.
