Sporting News national writer Bill Bender was on the Paul Finebaum show this week and revealed his top 10 coaches in College Football for the 2022 season.

Four SEC coaches made the Top 10, including LSU's Brian Kelly who was No. 6 on the list.

The Top 5 consisted of Nick Saban, Dabo Swinney, Kirby Smart, Ryan Day, and Luke Fickell.
quote:

6. Brian Kelly, LSU – Notre Dame was one of the most consistent programs in the country while Kelly was in charge, having at least 10 wins seven different times. He will be hoping to bring similar results down south with LSU. There’s no national championship attached to his name but he is a two-time AP College Football Coach of the Year.

Kelly should be fourth, and would be 3rd, IMO, if he had won a championship for ND. Kelly brought up four different programs from obscurity. Ryan Day has done nothing even close to Kelly. Sure Ohio St is still doing elite things, and it's great that he maintains that, but he hasn't built it from the ground up. Fickell is what Kelly was when he built up Cincinnati for the first time (he turned a basketball school into a promising football school). Kirby Smart can only be placed above him because of the championship and the trajectory of the program (they might be in the championship game again this year).

I wonder what Kelly did that moved him from #3 last season to #6 this year other than move to LSU? Notre Dame was in the playoff discussion for a while and finished 11-2.

I think Kelly is better than Dumbo, and Ryan Day

Yea all Harbaugh’s Teams have done consistently is be Inconsistent!! He makes the CFP 1 Time & everybody forgets about the previous 5-6 years that his teams constantly underperformed & wilted in pressure situations.

No, this is Jim Harbaugh. Jim Harbough definitely shouldn't be on this list.

Number 1, you can't really argue
Number 2 and 3 they have National Championships but teams seems to be trending in different ways.
Ryan Day at 4??? What has he done? He was given a great opportunity, with a team he didn't build and hasn't moved forward. The same could be said about Lincoln Riley.
Luke Fickell was able to repeat what Brian Kelley did a decade ago.
Bill Bender was better on Futurerama than ranking coaches.
