Report: Ex LSU OL Coach James Cregg Sues University Over Firing

Former LSU offensive line coach James Cregg is suing the university for breach of contract after he was fired months ago, according to The Advocate.

Cregg was fired "for cause" back in June after he admitted to violating NCAA rules during a "covid recruiting dead period."

The lawsuit, filed Wednesday in Baton Rouge state court, says LSU athletic director Scott Woodward provided Cregg a termination letter on June 17 citing the violation of NCAA rules referenced by Orgeron.

Cregg claims in his lawsuit, which seeks damages, that the NCAA "has never issued a ruling or decision that Coach Cregg has committed a Level I or Level II violation, or repeated Level III and/or Level IV violations, of the NCAA bylaws such that ... the Employment Agreement could provide a for cause justification for LSU to terminate coach Cregg's employment,"

According to Cregg's most recent contract with LSU, if he is terminated by LSU without cause, the university must pay him the total remaining base salary and supplemental compensation in monthly installments equal to the amount of time remaining in the term. Read more.

Oh, boy! You have to ask why emotions have run this high. Quick hire and quick fire is a part of college football. What is the reason he is taking it this far? One down side to this is that he may never get hired anywhere else. I hope he does not have a Louisiana attorney. If he does, it is a sign of how fragile our support system for our flagship university can be, which can pose a challenges to recruiting. Recruits pay attention to everything.

He knows he has no case but he’s involving the NCAA to shed light on LSU’s dirty laundry. This way LSU can either pay him or face Level I/Level II violations for the football program. Plus he probably knows where all the skeletons are buried. This is modern day Blackmail.

I doubt seriously any investigation hinges on James Cregg. He was a sorry OL coach who admitted to violations and was fired. Probably can’t get a job anywhere near the LSU level and is trying to get some money.
