LSU is reportedly hiring College Football Hall of Fame coach John Robinson as a Senior Consultant to head coach Ed Orgeron, according to Fox Sports' Bruce Feldman. LSU later confirmed the report.

Robinson, 83-years old, has coached in College Football and the NFL since 1960. He won four Rose Bowls as head coach of USC, one which was a National Championship victory in 1978. He last coached for San Marcos High School (CA) in 2010. Per LSUSports.net:
quote:

“I want to welcome Coach Robinson and his wife Miss Beverly to the LSU Family,” Orgeron said. “Coach has been a great friend and mentor to me and he will be a very valuable resource for us in growing our championship culture at LSU.”

Robinson will assist Orgeron as a consultant to daily planning of practice, personnel and game planning.

Robinson has an overall college coaching record of 132-77-4 and a NFL regular-season record of 75-68. He went 4-6 in the NFL Playoffs.

It's probably good for recruiting in some way or another. It's good to have people like this around our program in general. Just don't overpay.

Hey those who are down voting this. Do you not think he is a household name in Southern California. Anyone in SCAL who knows anything or has any interest college football knows John Robinson. Like the parents and grand parents of the players we want to recruit from Southern CA.

Sometimes just having a veteran presence is worth it, dude has the pedigree. And if he is just there for Coach O to bounce ideas off then he is fitting of the role. I highly doubt he is involved in the day to day.

Read the article.. It's just a friend to help with the way he did things at usc to win a championship. Like, what ideas do you have about how we run practice? What recruiting tricks did you use.? How did you deal with compliance dpt.. How did you get kids to buy in without playing and sitting the bench..any ideas on red zone plays, like running plays to be specific... All these answers are worth the 35 to 60gs a year they pay him.

Great, just what we need is another old geezer hobbling around the sidelines.

Please know what the hell is up before making stupid comments... He's not allowed to be on the sidelines, or coach players. Hell they don't even go to the games I don't think... We had 10 last year, we're allowed 13 . They make between 35gs and 70 Gs a year at lsu
