Multiple sources are reporting that former LSU defensive coordinator and current Youngstown State head coach Bo Pelini is expected to be named LSU's new defensive coordinator.

Pelini will replace Dave Aranda who is now the head coach at Baylor.

The news was first reported by Brett McMurphy with Stadium.com.

Pelini served as LSU's defensive coordinator under Les Miles from 2005-07 and was in charge of the defense when the Tigers won the 2008 BCS National Championship over Ohio State.

The 52-year old left LSU after the 2008 title game to become the head coach at Nebraska, going 67–27 and winning at least 9 games every year before he was fired in 2014.

Pelini has been the head coach at Youngstown State since 2015.

I don’t think this is a good choice at all . The defenses he has had at his previous employer were pure trash . Pellini be back looking for a job in two years max ??

Why pay $2M year for initial contract? Give guaranteed $1M and provide rest in incentives if he performs as expected.

How old are you? The guy helped LSU win a national championship in 2007 by shutting down Ohio State’s offense. Several years he had top rated defenses nationally. You’re gonna come in here and act like he hast to earn a $2 million salary?

I definitely like the hire. But I’ll be very interested to hear how his fiery coaching style meshes with the other defensive coaches currently on staff. I know the other guys can get fiery at times but they aren’t at that level 24/7 like Bo is.

There is a big cajun to keep him in check.

And I am sure the "big cajun" will entice his fiery coaching style.

Nebraska wishes they wouldn't have fired him, as no coach has come close to his record since he left.

His defenses were better than Arandas. That is without dispute. The question is, can he translate that former success against a then run heavy emphasis in tyhe SEC to a now pass-heavy, spread offense emphasis?
