LSU head coach Ed Orgeron addressed the media after practice on Thursday and said that sophomore placekicker Jack Gonsoulin has won the kicker competition and will handle field goals on Saturday night vs. Mississippi State. Per The Advocate:

Gonsoulin won a competition between the two players during preseason camp, but the job re-opened during last week's game against UT-Chattanooga.

Culp and Gonsoulin have combined to miss three of six field goals through the first two games. Gonsoulin started 2-for-4 before Culp replaced him last week against Chattanooga. Culp missed a 47-yarder and made one from 45.

Orgeron added that Cameron Gamble will remain the Tigers kickoff specialist.

What I dont understand is when we recruited and offered Gamble a scholarship literally all of his "highlight videos" showed him booming kickoffs out of the endzone. What exactly happens from high school to college to change that?

I haven't figured that out either. Better line up all of Gonsoulin's kicks from the Far left hash marks since he pushes everything to the right.

So the walk-on beat out 2 scholarship kickers?

I thought Connor Culp was supposed to be this amazing kicker? How can he not beat out a walk on scrub for field goal kicker? That ain't good at all.

Why are you calling your starting olacekicker a scrub

Because there isn't much difference between a typical walkon kicker and a scholarship one.

Glad LSU's player won the competition and not a player from another team. That would have been awkward.
