Per LSUSports.net: OXFORD, Miss. -- Joe Burrow set LSU's single-season passing record and tossed five touchdowns, as top-ranked LSU built a 31-7 halftime lead and held off Ole Miss, 58-37, on Saturday evening at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium.

Burrow, LSU's senior quarterback, completed 32-of-42 passes for a career-best 489 yards to give the Tigers a 10th win in 2019. In the process, he broke Rohan Davey's 2001 yardage record (3,347) and stands at 3,687 through 10 games.

Would like to see LSU put up a really good defensive performance for the rest of the season. Play as a complete team all phases of the game.

"held off Ole Miss, 58-37, on Saturday evening" 37 pts is outscoring not holding anyone off... almost every good team is scoring above 30 on us and even Vanderbilt w 38.

The defense must have had the week off from practice last week

What if Plumlee is actually quicker than any of LSUs DBs? :bigthink:

All the more reason to stay in your gap and not to crash inside with no run support behind you. You don't want any runner in the secondary. Period.

Ole Miss is going to be scary next year. Those young players will have a year to get better. LSU will likely lose alot of players off this year's team to NFL. Dave Arranda better spend the offseason, looking at Rich Rodriguez's old coaching stints, to get a gameplan on to stop that running offense.

Really happy for the entire offense. Its so much fun to watch. Cant rave enough about the receivers, tight ends and our RBs. CEH is one of my favorites because of the adversity he over comes.

So happy for Joe. You could see his face last night that he wasnt happy during the game. He strives for perfection and we are lucky to have him. Wish we had 3 more years of him.

Damn they are bad on defense. Can they at least get to the playoff with that awefull defense?? Coach O keeps telling his team this is not a rivalry for Lsu but it's ole Miss rivalry for them

Ed O. Ed’s to chew everbody’s arse on defense coaches included. Tell them this is a new season and start over starting with fundamentals.

This article is about Burrow becoming the new single season passing leader for LSU. He’s on his way to 4,000 yards. And you all are bitching about defense? Good grief. Go to one of the hundreds of other posts on that topic, where the same handful of posters are circle jerking about defense.

Ole Miss broke a few records too.

Yah they did, LSU sucks on defense

High tempo offenses generally create more scoring opportunities for your opponent, as well. As stated below, defense needs to be good enough to have 3 or 4 stops with your offense. Some in the LSU fan base love to bitch about anything.

Letting a qb run for three long TDs has nothing to do with more scoring opportunities, it has to do with poor scheming by Aranda. And if you think we are bitching, let's see your response when Ohio State beats us 48 to 45.

High tempo offense had zero to do with our defense giving up so much rush yards to the same play again and again. Our guys weren’t worn out. Ole Miss wasn’t going on long wearing scoring drives. They scored faster than LSU did. If anyone was worn out it was OM defense. Our coach didn’t have the correct players playing on defense and was out schemed buy Rich Rod. Period. I’m not complaining at all. I’m stating facts and if people don’t like that then you are the little girls. Defense is about being sound, playing hard and having your players in a position to make plays. LSU did none of that in the second half when Rich Rod made his adjustments and started taking it to our edges. We have the correct personnel to handle this type of offense but didn’t use them. Brooks and Delpit could have played near the LOS to eliminate much of these yards. Play Monroe or Lewis or one of the corners in the cover 1 safety spot bc they couldn’t pass to save their lives. We could have had two or three tacklers in the backfield with our DLman and made it 1st/2nd and long all night. Our DL would get penetration but didn’t have the speed to get to their ball carriers. Our linebackers and safeties were out of position bc they were in a huge disadvantage in space with these quick cut type of carriers. That’s basically it.

It is a different era of LSU football. When you offense can put up 40+ a game, you don’t have to have the best defense in the country. You are winning football games and undisputed #1 team in the country. Enjoy the ride instead of finding something to complain about.

The Defense looked clueless. At times they didn't know where to line up. Aranda, for whatever reason, does not bring pressure and stays in a 3 and sometimes 4 man front regardless of down and distance. On the 1st TD run by Plumlee Chaisson crashed so hard from Left End it left nobody to stop Plumlee. If that was designed it was stupid. If that was players not knowing what to do then that is alarming 10 games into the season and is pathetic coaching. Aranda needs to be held accountable for the problems on defense and fix these continuing problems or he needs to go.

A question for you down voters. Dave Aranda makes 2.5 million dollars per year and is the highest paid assistant coach in the country. If you don't hold him accountable for the defensive performance this year then who is responsible? How bad does the LSU defense have to be for you Aranda lovers realize there is a problem?

I'm tired of "high tempo offense gives other team more scoring opportunities" crap. This is about Aranda and his play calling. Everyone knew this qb doesn't pass well, but runs like 4.4 40. Yet how many times did you see Aranda put a fast spy on him? Same for his 3rd and long calls all season or his stupid press man call at the end of the Alabama game. His calls will get us rolled by Ohio State or Clemson unless he evolves asap.

The first year in over a decade we have a pulse on offense. First year we dont have to rely on defense for games. Fire Aranda! Get the frick outta here you bums.

You’re probably one that fought for les miles to stay to the very end. Some of us know football and can see trends starting early. Some of us just want full utilization of talent. Dave’s a good coach but I think it’s time to find a great one to match the talent of the athletes and the rest off the coaching staff. The fans AND players deserve it. If LSU doesn’t do something soon enough, our defensive recruiting WILL be affected. Remember how long it’s been since we had a great QB? I’d rather that not be the case for the defense in the near future. Ya. our offense yet again played so well our defense wasn’t hardly needed in the second half.. but don’t overlook the fact the #1 team in the country was outscored in the second half by a unranked Ole Miss team that Is one dimensional and has hardly begun rebuilding.

Defense needs to improve just enough to provide three or four stops a game and maybe a turnover and the offense will take care of the rest… As mentioned before it is unacceptable for this level of talent to perform this poorly
