Marvin Gentry-USA TODAY Sports
Alabama offensive coordinator Lane Kiffin is a candidate for the head coaching gig at USF now that Willie Taggart has left for the Oregon job, according to multiple sources.

Kiffin is also a top candidate for the LSU offensive coordinator job but might want to be a head coach again after serving the past three years as an offensive coordinator under Nick Saban at Alabama.

New LSU head coach Ed Orgeron worked under Kiffin at Tennessee in 2009 and at USC from 2010 to 2013. Both are still very close friends and talk regularly on the phone.

When asked about Kiffin during his introductory press conference, Orgeron said he is "going to get the best coordinator in football."

Kiffin is also in play for the Houston job opening along with former LSU head coach Les Miles.

Why would we want a 1 year OC? if he doesnt get a HC gig this year he probably will next year. Every off-season will be in limbo with potential recruits waiting to see who the OC will be. Need to look for a more stable guy.

What I find amusing is Les Miles being linked to every open job yet not one offer so far. Nice guy, but not a great coach. And the media tried to make LSU administrators look like bad guys for firing Les. How you smelling now media?

The LSU administration did handle the Les Miles job poorly. Dating back to last season and continuing in to this season.

I can't agree on that. He has a great mind for offense. But he tends to make poor decisions when he is in total control. He tends to say and do things that gets him in hot water and the media aplifies it. As long as he has a guy above him (HC) he's good. Kiffen requires a guy that has the power to reign him in from time to time. As HC he doesn't have a person to do that. As a OC he does.
