LSU made a five-spot jump in ESPN's latest College Football Power Rankings following Saturday's 31-0 shutout victory over Mississippi State in Tiger Stadium.

The Tigers (5-2) moved up from No. 23 to No. 18 after putting together one of their most complete performances of the season.

The Tigers took advantage of Mississippi State's injury situation -- the Bulldogs played without star quarterback Kamario Taylor and tailback Fluff Bothwell -- but it might not have mattered in a 31-0 shutout. LSU quarterback Sam Leavitt completed 31 of 38 passes for 289 yards with four touchdowns and didn't turn the ball over for the first time this season. That's a big step forward. The Tigers had only three penalties and one turnover and played with more precision. LSU is still in the CFP hunt with two losses, but it faces a difficult stretch over the next five weeks with games against Auburn (road), Alabama (home), Texas (home) and Tennessee (road). -- Mark Schlabach
LSU (5-2, 2-2 SEC) faces Auburn on Saturday at Jordan-Hare Stadium. Kickoff is at 11 am CT on ABC.

Whoever says ‘they hate LSU’ are morons. They’ll still keep us in after this weekend.
