LSU Falls To Ole Miss In Lane Kiffin's Return To Oxford, 32-24

LSU suffered its first loss of the season Saturday night, falling to Ole Miss 32-24 in a highly anticipated SEC showdown at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium.

The Tigers came up short in Lane Kiffin's return to Oxford, as Ole Miss handed its former head coach a loss in his first game back against the Rebels.

Ole Miss jumped out to a 24-7 halftime lead behind quarterback Trinidad Chambliss, who threw two touchdown passes in the first half. LSU's lone score before the break came on a two-yard touchdown run by Dilin Jones.

The Tigers rallied in the second half, with quarterback Sam Leavitt scoring on a four-yard touchdown run before connecting with Winston Watkins Jr. on a 26-yard touchdown pass to cut the deficit to 24-21.

LSU kicker Scott Starzyk tied the game at 24-24 with a 23-yard field goal early in the fourth quarter.

However, Chambliss answered with a 14-yard touchdown run with 6:14 remaining. Ole Miss added a two-point conversion to take a 32-24 lead and held on for the victory. Chambliss finished with 363 passing yards and two touchdowns.

LSU also suffered a significant injury during the game when star tight end Trey'Dez Green injured his right leg in the third quarter. Green was helped off the field and later carted to the locker room. He was eventually seen on the sideline in street clothes and on crutches.

LSU starting defensive back Dashawn Spears also suffered a significant injury in the first half and was later spotted on crutches on the sidelines

The loss drops LSU to 2-1 overall and 0-1 in SEC play, while Ole Miss improves to 3-0 and 1-0 in conference play.

LSU returns home next Saturday to face Texas A&M at Tiger Stadium.
