LSU announced Wednesday that a plan has been developed that will allow visiting bands to perform halftime shows at Tiger Stadium. Per LSUSports.net:

The plan involves re-configuring seating areas in the South End Zone so that visiting bands may take a more direct route to the field, reducing the congestion and safety hazards created by previous field entry methods.

In addition, when visiting bands are scheduled to perform, the LSU Band will perform prior to the visiting band, allowing ample time for the visiting band to exit its seats and enter the field in a precise manner.

“There are serious safety issues to consider in adopting the proper plan for on-field performances by visiting bands,” said LSU Vice Chancellor and Director of Athletics Joe Alleva. “When both our band and the visiting band are scheduled to perform, there’s the possibility of having over 600 additional people converging onto already crowded sidelines while the game is in progress. There are legitimate safety concerns that can affect our student-athletes, so we have developed a plan to insure a more secure environment for everyone.”

They couldn't have considered this prior to their previous announcement, or was their hand forced by all of the backlash?

I would guess it is the latter one. Our AD couldn't realize how stupid the original ban was until pretty much everyone spits on him and tells him so.

The other day I was listening to the Culotta&Prince show and they have Joe Alleva on the show. One of them asking Alleva if the ban is really necessary or if there is any incident that leads to this decision. You can tell by the way Alleva answered the question that he was second guessing his decision, as he could barely put together a whole sentence without repeating himself and obviously couldn't justify himself. I was like...he is such an embarrassment to LSU.

After the way he handled the Duke lacrosse incident, there is no way LSU should have hired him. Shameful.

Serious Safety issues my arse...been working for nearly 100 years....cant say I have ever seen a need for emergency services at a band halftime show in Tiger Stadium. This AD would have been fired from a Corporate world job long ago. How does this continue to happen.

It's not so much about visiting bands but about the LSU band having negative blow back as a result of this and being denied opportunities. This decision was universally panned.

I'll tell you how much I pay attention to them...I had no idea there was a ban until yesterday...I don't sit in my seat at halftime...too busy unloading and refueling haha

You mean to tell me you don't enjoy visiting bands playing their rendition of "that 70's classic by the Bee Gees - Staying Alive!!" Hell, I wouldn't watch LSU's band do that...

Why is the university suddenly concerned about this "safety issue" all of a sudden?
