Les Miles met with the media after LSU's 16-14 loss to Wisconsin on Saturday and said that offensive lineman Josh Boutte might not of known the play was over when he delivered a late hit on D'Cota Dixon. Per ESPN:
quote:

"I grabbed him right away," Miles said. "I'm going to have to see the film, but he's an offensive lineman in protection and what happens downfield sometimes is you're protecting beyond the play. ... Again, I'll have to check this, but it's very logical that he did not even know [Dixon] had gone down and was just running [with the ball]."

NCAA rules stipulate that conference offices must review all "flagrant personal foul ejections," so the SEC will look at the Boutte hit and determine whether any additional discipline is needed.

Boutte was not made available to reporters after the game.

"He's not a malicious guy," Miles said. "I just can't imagine that he saw him go down and then made it back."
Here is video of the late hit:

On a pick, your head is on a swivel so you don't get blindsided. Can you not imagine a 300+ lb guy trying to run and turning his head and missing the guy going down? And notice, 2 wisky players near him blocking. If that guy would have run for a pick 6, y'all would all be yelling for him not trying.

Personally, I'd cut him from the team. Absolute disgrace to not only LSU but the game and historic field he was playing on that day. Thousands of football players each day respect the game and don't go out of their way to lay cheap shots just because your season got upset. Borderline thuggery and we don't need that on our team. He's not even good player anyway so not much loss getting rid of him.

No you wouldn't

I'd cut him too. I have a hard time believing he didn't know the guy was down, not that I'm ruling out the possibility.

Actually, I'd suspend him for four or five games. That seems more reasonable for a first offense.

Good lord people. He's a college kid who lost his head during a critical moment of a huge game. Tensions were running high. Like miles said, he's not a malicious guy. He made a horrible decision. He's a Senior who probably had his head filled with aspirations of winning a National title his final year at LSU. Surrounded by all this talent and blocking for the best back in College football. They lost a game that they rightfully shouldn't and it was all on the failure of his coaches. Think about how frustrated we are as fans. How fed up we are. Think about a players frustration. I'm not saying what he did was right. I think he needs to be suspended, ya, agree. But NO, he's NO THUG. He shouldn't be kicked off the team or none of that nonsense. He went to the bench and put a towel over his head. He was visibly upset. He lost his cool. Period! We're only human.

Which coach threw the interception? Which coach was having problems blocking the defensive players? Which coach was missing tackles or having trouble covering Wisconsin receivers? The coaches are to blame for not having these young men ready to play yesterday's game, but they aren't to blame for some of the poor performances and mistakes that were made by the players on the field.

Kid was tryin' to make a play. Very unfortunate and not dirty imo. You want to see dirty, go watch the USCw player stomp on the Bama return mans nuts. Now thats dirty.

There's nothing to review. I question whether he should be wearing an LSU uniform after that cowardly act. He shamed the university on national tv.

Maybe he can join Eric Reid? Hell no. That sh$t was wayyyy too cool. The only play I enjoyed yesterday

He was running at the play and the man went to the ground before he hit him. He had to see that to see where the man was. Absolutely intentional and god awful. And who is reviewing mIles?

If you think it is a bad thing that should not be on the field don't talk about it. It gives it merit. Penalties for rough hits should not be replayed. I'm not saying this is that, just if it is...don't give it the time of day.

When I was watching the play live it appeared that he just didn't know the play was dead as there were several Wisky players running wth the Dback that looked like they didn't know either and might have been looking to make a block. Its football so I'd give him the benefit of the doubt. I will say though that his behavior after the play didn't seem like someone who was confused about the play and/or why he was being ejected. He seemed to be acting somewhat guilty. Maybe if you are the defense and you get a pick don't have your celebrations look like a dash to the end zone and yu won't get your arse handed to you by mistake, or otherwise.

There's nothing to "review." That was a cheap-shot, plain and simple.

Boutte has always had a problem distinguing colors. He thought that was his QB who just threw the game winning pass. Testosterone and Adrenaline.

I think he was confused about the play. As a matter of fact, he was confused all day. There were several plays that he was facing Brandon Harris instead of looking downfield.

Boutte needs to find himself another school. That hit was a sign of pure trash.

I honestly don't think he knew the play was over. It's easy to make that call when you see every angle on TV, but the guy immediately got up and ran the other way with it, and had what looked to be blockers leading for him.

Why wouldn't he try to recover a "fumble" then? BS. He knew it was over.

I am a die hard LSU fan, but what Boutte did was a really cheap shot. He knew the play was over

I agree with the majority, best hit all day after the games worse play of the day, the interception by an over matched qb who can't play in big games. Should have recovered the fumble though and returned for a TD.
