LSU freshman Devin White participated in his first college practice on Monday and worked exclusively with the linebackers.

White, a four-star RB/LB prospect from Springhill, LA expressed interest throughout his recruitment that he wanted to play running back at LSU. After practice on Monday, coach Les Miles explained why White has moved over to the linebacker position:

Smart move by Devin. Much better chance of playing on Sundays with his size.

This is awesome. Players willing to go play outside their preferred position ate very valuable and make the team better. I bet he's a beast in conditioning.

"I bet he's a beast in conditioning." Not yet, but I bet he will be shortly.

he'd have to slim down 10-15lb in order to play running back, not a quick process

"he'd have to slim down 10-15lb in order to play running back" He needs to slim down 10-15# regardless. He was carrying a little "extra" weight this past football season.

One quick look at NFL career expectancy for RB vs. LB would be all I needed to see.

LOL classic Miles White: Coach can I see the field faster at LB? Miles: That may be true.

Seems like a quality, damn strong man to have in our room as the backend of spring approaches

Smart move. LB is very thin. No chance he can start at RB any time soon (hopefully). He's already built like an NFL ILB with wheels. Thinking ahead, LB at the next level is a more valuable prospect than RB. RB's last what? 3-7 years and you lead the league this year... they won't pay you the big dollars next year because of the "wear" from the previous year.

He could be a star at LB. Excited to see him.
