Junior running back Leonard Fournette has announced that he will not play in the Citrus Bowl, ending his football career at LSU.

He finished with 3,830 rushing yards and 40 touchdowns as a Tiger.

Fournette, along with head coach Ed Orgeron spoke to the media on Friday afternoon about his decision which was made because of his lingering ankle injury that has still not 100-percent healed. Per LSUSports.net:
quote:

Fournette, a New Orleans native who was rated as the No. 1 high school recruit in the nation at St. Augustine High School, rushed for 100 or more yards four times in 2016 and briefly held the school’s single-game rushing record with 284 yards in an October win over Ole Miss.

Fournette finishes his LSU career ranked No. 4 in school history in rushing yards (3,830) and rushing touchdowns (40). His 119.7 rushing yards per game is a school-record and as his five 200-yard rushing games. Fournette ranks tied for third in LSU history in 100-yard rushing games with 19.

Fournette holds LSU’s single-season records for rushing yards (1,953 in 2015), rushing touchdowns (22 in 2015), overall touchdowns (23 in 2015), 200-yard games (4 in 2015), 100-yard games (10 in 2015), and rushing yards per game (162.8 in 2015).

He’s also the LSU single-game record holder for points (30 vs. Texas Tech, 2015) and touchdowns in a game (5 vs. Texas Tech, 2015).

Would love to see him one more time in P&G, but wish him the best. Leonard's one hell of a football player, and an even better person.

Why would you give the other team advance notice and have one less threat to prepare for.....

So glad he made the right choice. Nothing to be gained and everything to lose. If we were in the playoffs it would be a different story. Guice and company have been rolling all year long, so we're good. Thanks for everything Leonard! You are the man! Go make that dream a reality!

Leonard, you are a hell of a Tiger. I will never forget that Auburn game in 2015. Best performance by a college athlete I've seen. Thanks.

I know there's a lot of money on the line here for him but this left me with sour feeling for me and how I feel about his career at LSU. Just being honest

And also to clarify know that the coaches and family asked him not to play as well so this is not just all on him. It's quite possible I'm just being selfish and wanted to see him suit up one last time because he's an amazing athlete when healthy

He has a lingering ankle injury and hasn't been at 100 percent for a long time now. I don't hold anything but respect for the kid. I'm as big a tiger fan as they come and although I'm disappointed to not see him wear an LSU uniform again, I cannot hold this against him in the slightest. He's just being smart. We will all forget this game, but serious injury can last a lifetime. If this were for the NC it would be one thing, but to risk further injuring an injury and with it his entire future is ridiculous, and you wouldn't do it either. It's dumb.

Disappointing we won't see him in an LSU uniform again, yes. But it would be foolish for him to play through an injury thats been lingering since the week 4 Auburn game. Just heal up and get ready for the NFL combine and draft. If LSU was in the playoffs, I think he'd probably try to play through it. But he's got nothing to gain by playing in the Citrus Bowl, only whether LSU finishes ranked in the top 15 or not.

Sucks for me, because I wanted to see him one last time, but I understand completely. Get healthy, Leonard, and go wreck shite at the next level.

Did you really think he was going to risk further injury in a game that means nothing?
