LSU baseball coach Jay Johnson spoke in front of a crowd at the Rotary Club this afternoon and provided some team updates heading into the season.

During the event, he joked that one of LSU's baseball players made so much money that his Dad called him to say he's giving back the scholarship.

Here's everything else Johnson said on Wednesday:

Maybe it should end up being an NIL money vs scholarship type deal. Pay their own way like contractors. Education requirements being laxxed too.

He talks the talk. If we can hold this ranking to the CWS I will be stoked.

“We tried to add a lot of depth… you may see some longer games this year. Our plan is to use more people than you probably traditionally see if it takes 5, 6 or 7 guys to get 27 outs…"

Is Mainierie still on staff as a pitching analyst?

This team is going to hurt the feelings of those other “elite” programs in the SEC. People do not understand what “old school” hitting looks like. You think they hit last season? Watch player like Beloso suddenly stop striking out and find his swing blast onto the scene. 1-9, it’ll be the most explosive line-up since 1997. There are hitters for average, power and a combination of both. Johnson will have starters that go 5 and bull pen it from there. MLB strategy and analytics on full display.
