True freshman quarterback TJ Finley made his LSU debut on Saturday night vs. South Carolina and lead the Tigers to a 52-24 win vs. the Gamecocks.

Finley completed 17-of-21 passes for 265 yards and two touchdowns, stepping in for Myles Brennan who is out with an injury.

After the game, head coach Ed Orgeron was asked if there was any quarterback controversy due to Finley's impressive showing.
quote:

"It might be on y'alls part," Orgeron said. "I mean, everybody's just yearning for it, I can feel it. It ain't gonna be on our part, I can tell you that. Myles is our starting quarterback. TJ has done a great job. I don't know when Myles is going to be ready but Myles is going to be our starting quarterback. But I know this, if Myles is not doing well, I can put in TJ and feel good about."
Coach O will speak to the media on Monday afternoon and likely update us on Myles' status for the Auburn game this weekend.

Myles has looked good aside from first half vs mississippi state. Finley looked good. Max looked good too. Great problem to have between Brennan and Finley.

Everybody’s favorite player is always the backup QB!

I have a sneaking suspicion that Myles’ injury is more serious than is being let on. Coach O is well known to play those cards very close to his vest.

I mean it has been disclosed that he has a torn ab muscle and has been in too much pain to practice sounds pretty serious to me lol

I have a suspicion that O wants to see a little more TJ and using Myles being “100%” as an excuse to keep playing him. If Myles was 80% and the freshman sucked, he’d be talking up Myles potentially being back.

Oh hell no coach o is crazy. He has to start Finley omg that kid is freaking so awesome. I mean holy shite did he not see the arm on that kid it is like a cannon. I bet you ten to one he can throw a football a hundred yards on one damn knee. He is so freaking good I have never seen a QB like him ever. This kid should be starting immediately.

I'll go easy on you and take take that bet for only $1000. But before you go running your mouth, you should know that the longest pass in NFL or College history is 99yds and that was from a standing position with a windup.

Holy shite. If he throws the ball 100 yards from his knees that means he would be down before he threw and it wouldn't matter.

How quickly people forget. Brennan is a REALLY good QB that just needs playing time to develop into elite. I am very happy for TJ Finley, but he isn't on the level of Brennan....yet.

Don’t know about that...no drops, 8/10 3rd down %, 100% in the red zone...

@js1591, did you see the stats they put up at the start of the game about what Brennan is doing so far this year? only LSU QB in history to go for over 300 yds in each of his first three starts. more yardage and more touchdowns than burrow had in his first three starts. yes, i know burrow is the GOAT and a legend, and i'm not saying Brennan is better. but his pace so far in the three games this year was off the charts. worse team, but it's not the QB that's been the problem. tj looks great. but brennan is your guy when he's healthy.

Sometimes I wonder if LSU fans watch the game. O line was the reason 3rd down was so good. Same for red zone. Finley played well, but had a monster run game and no pressure. LSU ran for as many yards in USC game as previous 3 COMBINED!!!

As it should be.
