Fox Sports College Football analyst Joel Klatt was on the Colin Cowherd’s show “The Herd” on Wednesday and said he thinks LSU will end up hiring Iowa State coach Matt Campbell to be Ed Orgeron's replacement. Per SDS:
quote:

For LSU, Klatt hesitated and eventually went with Iowa State coach Matt Campbell, who has taken ISU to new heights after he came from Toledo.

Campbell is a three-time Big 12 Coach of the Year (2017, 2018, 2020) and has led the Cyclones to four-straight bowl games, a school record, yearly appearances in the national rankings and the most wins in school history (32) over the last 4 seasons. In 2020, Campbell led the Cyclones to a first-place finish in the final Big 12 regular-season standings, a spot in the Big 12 Championship game and a New Year’s Six bowl game, all program firsts.

Would be underwhelming hire because of all the big names linked to LSU but I think he would do a great job.

That would be a great hire, but not the sexy hire the rantards want because they watch nothing but SEC ball.

I never have been for the "sexy" hire. Give me a young, creative coach with great communication skills (Will Wade).

Would rather him than Lincoln.

Why is that? Just curious. I know nothing about the guy but his defense is better than Lincoln Rileys defense any day of the week and any season. Other than that I don't have a clue what this guy can do. I know saban coached at Toledo just like Matt Campbell. When lsu hired saban he had a winning record at Michigan state but was not eye popping numbers to impress you and took a chance on saban. I wouldn't know which guy to choose but Riley. Napier and Campbell seem to be good choices if had to choose one but any others ?? ?

If it is somebody of Campbell’s caliber, I would think he would be paid half of what Riley might receive...

The coaching search will turn out harder hire a good coach than previously thought. I wish you did fire two coaches who won national titles so why would a Coach want to come here Especially with the landscape of college football changing

Maybe not create/continue ncaa and worse violations for sexual assault. That's a good start...

Solid "taking a chance on potential" choice. Patience will be needed though.

Good coach, just unproven but so was Saban at the time of his hire. Campbell has followed a similar path as Saban.
