Auburn has dismissed former LSU linebacker Xavier Atkins, ESPN's Pete Thamel reports. The news comes just days before LSU travels to Auburn for Saturday's SEC matchup.

A Louisiana native, Atkins began his college career at LSU after flipping his commitment from Missouri. He appeared in seven games as a freshman in 2024, recording three tackles before transferring to Auburn.

Atkins became one of the SEC's top defenders last season, earning first-team All-SEC honors after leading the conference with 17 tackles for loss.

Atkins was suspended for Auburn's upset victory over No. 1 Georgia on Saturday, and his status had remained uncertain since.

Late Monday night, Atkins announced on social media that he plans to enter the transfer portal when the appropriate window opens.

The reason for his suspension and dismissal has not been made public.

LSU faces Auburn this Saturday at Jordan-Hare Stadium. Kickoff is set for 11 a.m. CT on ABC.

"I wonder if he could be a portal target for this coming December?"

Just what we need, trash from other teams.

Pretty mature statement from the young man. Makes me want to root for him going forward.

It’s crazy how much some of yall are influenced by PR and social media smoke and mirrors. Maybe try looking at his actions and not what someone else typed on his twitter account

Pretty impressive Sophomore season accomplishments
Not knowing what he did to result in his release, I wonder if he could be a portal target for this coming December?
