LSU athletic director Joe Alleva is expected to meet Friday with men’s basketball coach Johnny Jones, at which time Jones will be fired, multiple sources told The Advocate on Thursday.

Jones’ team was eliminated from the Southeastern Conference tournament on Wednesday night with a 79-52 setback to Mississippi State, which brought an end to a miserable season that saw LSU go 10-21 overall.

Good news: JJ is out. Bad news: Alleva hires his replacement.

I'm really disappointed that JJ didn't work out, and I wish him well moving forward. He is an LSU Tiger. Best of luck to him and the team he leaves behind!

JJ made more in five years than most average Americans make in a lifetime. He will get another job and will survive. bring on the new Trent

Johnny Jones is a decent man, who will be replaced as coach. It is the right move. However, the fans on this site have not practiced decency as it pertains to Coach Jones. Alleva also could practice some decency.

Domt even give us this shite. The team never improved and very rarely played inspired. If Johnny can't get the players motivated why should the fans stay behind him? We just want the dude fired. Sure he's a great guy but has no business as a P5 head coach

I thought JJ could do it, he had it going with his early recruits, but just couldn’t get it done on the court. The biggest disappointment was the Simmons fiasco. Simmons should have been kicked off the team, but JJ couldn’t do it. He couldn’t make a commitment to Simmons and LSU at the same time without destroying either one. In the end, the Simmons’ affair tarnished Jones and it was his eventual end.

Agree with you bdnc. I can't believe Johnny didn't learn more from all those years with Dale Brown. Ultimately, he suffered the same fate. With Simmons basically being his Lester Earl. Such a shame. But good luck Johnny in the future and good luck to our basketball program moving forward.
