LSU Basketball Commit Marcio Santos Heads Back To EuroLeague

LSU basketball will move forward without international big man Marcio Santos this season.

Santos, who committed to Will Wade and the Tigers back in May, has signed a two-year contract with Kosner Baskonia in Spain, the EuroLeague club announced Tuesday.

The 6-foot-8 Brazilian forward had been hoping to play for LSU this upcoming season but had yet to receive NCAA eligibility clearance. With his status still unresolved as the season approached, Santos instead elected to return to professional basketball in Europe.

Santos, 23, brought significant professional experience to LSU's recruiting class. He previously played for Franca in Brazil and Ratiopharm Ulm in Germany before joining Maccabi Tel Aviv last season.

In his first EuroLeague season with Maccabi, Santos appeared in 37 games and averaged 6.9 points, 1.6 rebounds, and 0.6 assists per game.

Santos was one of several international players Wade recruited this offseason as he rebuilt LSU's roster. His departure now removes one of the more experienced pieces from that group as the Tigers continue working through eligibility questions with other international additions.
