A big topic on the SEC Coaches Teleconference Wednesday was the news of UNLV starting quarterback Matthew Sluka announcing his transfer in the middle of the night after issues with an NIL of deal.

Georgia head coach Kirby Smart was asked about the news and had this to say, Per On3:
quote:

“I can tell you that I don’t think it’ll be the last and the way we’re moving into this abyss of unknown, and I’m talking about fiscal responsibility, financial commitments, financial promises, people sometimes make promises, and I know I’ve come across it in our recruiting that they can’t keep and there’s no — sometimes there’s no rebuttal for the athlete,” Smart said. “Sometimes there’s no rebuttal for the athletic department or the collective or whoever’s involved. And it’s sad that there’s not just a better, a way to police it better. Because it’s unfortunate and when — I’m not suggesting UNLV made promises they can’t keep. I’m not saying that. I don’t know that situation. I want to be clear on that.”

“What I’m saying is it happens more and more and it’s going to happen even more and more as we move into this revenue share where I feel like, unless there’s a contract and there’s a set contract where Person A has to stay a certain amount of time or they’re going to have to pay back this contract, we’re never going to get to where we want to get to,” Smart said. “There’s probably going to be more and more of this going on, especially as the year goes on, November, December. Athletic departments are going to struggle to be able to make their commitments come to fruition and I think we’re going to see some really tough times in college football when all this is said and done.”

The future is either pay and break the bank or search the best players with character of actually wanting to play and represent a schools' team not just during the regular season but in the playoff schedule without the BS of not playing because of fearing injury and risk of loosing draft status. Can't wait to see multiple million dollar players not playing in playoff games because of possible injury risk .

Saban warned of all this - but many on this site (we know the fans) and elsewhere said he was just scared of balancing the playing field. Well, you asked for it - ya got it - for the foreseeable future.

The irony being ballooning coach pay, with Nick Saban's contracts often leading the way, was a major catalyst toward speeding us toward this result.

Saban didn’t wanna fool with it …. Every coach hates the new NIL era . Not just the one who quit

Many of these players are just mercenaries to the highest bidder. They will use this scenario to further extort universities, collectives, wealthy individuals to give in to their demands or transfer mid season. "NIL" and the portal are the most harmful things that have ever happened to college football

Just wait until worker’s comp gets involved. How about when a player sues the NCAA to play indefinitely. Much more money in NIL as an 8th year player than a practice squad salary. We’ve not seen the tip of the ice berg of this Charlie Foxtrot.

Workers Comp? They aren’t employees of the University.
